This one's an oldie, but we don't know how old. Old enough that it predates the legal requirement to have a "Made in" stamped on it and it has wooden gears. It also has a small string on it which, when you pull it, it chimes the hour...I guess for at night if you can't read the clock you can at least tell what the hour is? It's from DH's grandmother and the origin is Czechoslovakia. Not sure what the pillars are made of either...maybe alabaster.

Using a stretch of the imagination. Could not find timepiece in my pics. This is speedometer in our 61 Vette. I drive 35 miles an hour around town , so it takes me an hour to drive 35 miles. “Sorta” like a timepiece. I plead old age this morning.

Clock and it's guard.

Our old (about 1880) 2 weight Austrian Vienna Regulator. Nearly all the Regulators are wall clocks so this one is unusual since it's a floor standing clock. The base is a 'secret' compartment - the door opens and there are 3 shelves inside.

Annie - it was a well-kept secret for nearly 40 years. The gears were worn and wonky and if you accidentally bumped the case in a certain way it often stopped the movement. We never told the kids about the compartment to make sure they didn't play around with the door. When we moved our clock repair fellow moved all the antique clocks and then installed and serviced them at the new house. Now that I think about it I'm curious if we ever told them.....

This Welsh Victorian grandfather clock was rescued from a bonfire outside one of his mother’s neighbours houses by my Dad. In the same haul was a Vienna regulator. The wall hung type.

We only just got it in under the low ceiling.

My grandfather clock, 3 years ago, before I added so many plants. I was living in Baltimore when, in 1986, I visited my brother and sister-in-law in North Carolina. My brother took me to his favorite clock shop and I ended up buying this clock. The owner of the shop was delivering another clock to someone in Baltimore, so he brought mine along too and set it up for me. It made the move back to Cincinnati and is still running.

It's about 24" tall. Something I picked up 2nd hand. $10

Part of my kitchen work area . The time is on the thermometer, on the microwave, the Bose radio and not seen here, but also on the front of the range. Seems like there is never two of them showing the same time at the same time.

lgmd, LOL about the time never being the same. It happens here too. And I have to think about how many clocks I have to reset whenever the power goes out!!!
