They tried to save some money/material by using seamed remnants instead of doing Option 1. They failed.

I paid for Option 1 though. This was not an inexpensive project.

It could look better if they had flipped that small piece, so that the darker colors would at least be next to each other.

Mistakes happen, but how a company deals with them is what is more important. I think you did the right thing by disputing charges with the CC company.

It's a do-over. They took their shot and lost fair and square.

Thank you, Joseph and chispa. I really think something happened to the second stone that I purchased and that’s why they needed 3 more days before installing. (To get another slab brought in) Agree that if the dark colors would have been matched up, it would have been okay. However, what is so upsetting is that they aren’t communicating with us at all. We are towards the end of a major whole house remodel and need the countertops installed before sink and gas stove can be set. This is holding up our move in.

Who is the "boss" on this project, a contractor or you? Who hired the fabricators?

If you are the boss, then you might want to show up at their shop first thing in the morning or whenever the shop opens up and hopefully catch the owner in person. I find that these things are better resolved in person. Take a witness with you!

Tell them if they ever want to see the balance you owe them, they'll have to replace the stone. Tell them to bring back your down payment in cash and come get their stone. Tell them if it isn't replaced in a week, you'll get it replaced and see them in court.

I guess I am the boss. I searched for stone dealers and dealt with them on my own instead of the contractor doing work in other parts of the house. I’ve included a picture of the whole kitchen. I bought 2 slabs to cover the island and the perimeter. Stupid question: Should both perimeter pieces be removed to ensure a good color match?

The photo cut off at the far right. To the right of the cooktop is another 2’ of countertop, which is part of that piece that was seamed. The perimeter counter is seamed nicely at the sink and then poorly at the place approximately 1’ to the left of the countertop
