Seams in laminate countertop for island - OK or bad idea - Help!
Comments (10)We had our laminate counters pre fabbed for us, with Wilsonart HD, but we did the install ourselves. To get the seams tight we had to place glue between the two pieces being joined and then there are miter bolts beneath the counters that are tightened to pull the two sections together to get a very tight seam. In our particular pattern you really have to look to see the seams. Solid color laminate will show the seam more easily, but some patterns are barely noticeable. I've had laminate countertops in all but one of my 7 homes in the last 30 years and never ever had a problem with seams and laminate lifting. Nor have I had any ugly seams. As a mom to 4 kids (now grown and gone), trust me there were plenty of spills on my laminates through the years. They all got wet!!! Never had any seams lifting. My biggest problem with laminate is that it's not heat resistant or scratch resistant, although the newer laminates like my new Wilsonart HD is pretty tough and difficult to scratch. If you're doing a solid color laminate I don't think seams would look very nice on your island which may be the focal point of your kitchen. But if you're doing a pattern, i think you'll be fine....See MoreBad Quartz Countertop Seam
Comments (19)That seam is unacceptable. Have them remove the island and if they don't have access to a CNC machine to dress those edges, they need to dress them by hand with a Seam Phantom. Major methacrylate adhesive manufacturers (Glue Warehouse, Integra) have color matched adhesive recommendations that have been tested, unlike color-blind Bubba with his polyester mix. Everything I'm stating is industry standard. Tell your builder I said so....See MoreBad quality seam for mitered quartzite - ADVICE PLEASE SO STRESSED
Comments (10)Shannon_WI: Sorry, but when sinks are strapped in place, they become the vertical reinforcement for the front sink rail. Tops of any material have little flexural strength, no matter the width. This front rail is 2 3/8" wide, the sink is strapped, and I'll dance a Conga line across it anytime:...See MoreDid they screw up my quartzite countertop seam?
Comments (9)***UPDATE*** So, the owner sent the crew out today to fix the issue. They used some kind of polisher (used three different discs) and added either an epoxy and/or sealer afterwards. It feels a lot smoother, but the imperfection on the bottom portion of the counter seam is still visibly there. The explanation they gave me what that it's just how the stone is. Whether that's true or not, who knows...at least it looks better and isn't as rough. Don't know what else I can do. Thanks all for your help....See MoreJDS
