Oh my gosh, so many wonderful responses!!! Thank you so much. Well, so far, it's unanimous that I should leave the glass door alone. Perhaps not finding any fabric I liked at the fabric store today was a sign that the glass door is meant to be uncovered. gracie -- I have a collection of thimbles! That will definitely go in there. I also have a few sewing related figurines I can add, too. writersblock -- I have several other baskets besides the one already in there that may work. I'll dig them out. ronbre -- love your idea of adding some trim to the edge of the shelves and covering boxes with fabric or paper. betty -- I'm going to get some of my fabrics out of the boxes its stored in and see how that looks on a shelf. skypathway -- fabric and baskets - always a great combination. I will play around with all these great idea tonight after dinner, see what I come up with and try to post another picture tonight. Thanks again.

Mike. Allow me to give you a little tidbit of knowledge that will strengthen your position when dealing with the contractor. Maintenance is the act of replacing or repairing an existing system providing you maintain the exact same configuration, and anyone can perform maintenance. "PLUMBING" is the act of designing and installing new piping systems or reconfiguring existing systems, and by law it must be performed by certified plumbers. If one charges a fee including barter, either directly or indirectly through the GC on the job for performing an act of Plumbing they are required to have a license or have the job overseen by a licensed plumber. As the homeowner you have the right to insist on seeing the plumbers credentials before any work is commenced. If they try to slip in another wannabe plumber they are guilty of "contracting without a license".

Thanks to all who have responded. I was unable to get back to my computer since I posted so I will reply to all questions / suggestions in this response. Here goes: To weedmeister: tile goes down lastâ¦after the cabinets are in. As you will (or already have read), many of the pro installers will install plywood or some suitable material over the Hardie board to bring the cabinet install up to finished floor height. To monkeymo: You are correct. The solution is to use a stacked molding. My KD did not provide a crown diagram (she had to leave town on family business right after we ordered cabinets). When we met with our âÂÂnewâ KD yesterday to address this issue, she provided the crown diagram which showed the stacked molding. Our order did include the Single Bead Molding which is attached to blocking. As âÂÂlive wire oakâ remarked, the crown is installed on top of the SBM. Nonetheless, the crown that was ordered would still not have reached the ceiling. By ordering the Large Crown Molding (LCM8) we will get the necessary height. To live wire oak: You are correct: this is my first kitchen install and it has been very challengingâ¦and will likely continue to be. However, I will get it done and it will look great! And, yes, had I been aware of the stacked molding that was intended to be used, that would have covered one base. The crown originally ordered has a vertical height of 1 15/16; the LCM8 that we will be ordering to replace it has a vertical height of 2 13/16 so all will be fine. Several installers, including the one that works with HD to install cabinets, have told me that installing the cabinet bases on the Hardie board is perfectly OK. I know where they live so IâÂÂm sure they werenâÂÂt setting me up. :-) To lisa1 517: Thanks for your suggestion. You, too, are right on the money. Stacked it is! To kitchenkrazed09: All I can tell you is that my cabinet, including the base, is 93â tall. Kraftmaid calls it an OC302493. The base is 4 ýâ and the cabinet is 88 1/2â (the front of the cabinet âÂÂoverlapsâ the base by ýâ so it appears to be 89 (does that count for 90âÂÂ? ;-) ). To Buehl: Thanks for your picture. The link I posted and referred to in my post is of the same picture. Not trying to be a smart a**, I just didnâÂÂt want that look with painted cabinets. It really looks nice with your stained installation, however! Once again, I sure appreciate everyoneâÂÂs comments, etc. This forumâÂÂs members are a tremendous resource! I will be posting some pictures as my installation progresses.

My cabinet maker (who complained about the flors not being covered, and then went ahead & covered them himself) pointed out that you frequently have electricians & plumbers, and their workes coming in after the tiling is done, and they have muddy shoes (they work in a lot of construction sites after all) and the mud gets on the grout (a special probelm if it hasn't been sealed yet, but who wants that even if it has been sealed) and just the grit created by the work could scratch the tiles. Makes a lot of sense. As for why I'm staying with this KD who causes me so much angst, there are many reasons. First, of course, there's the money. I've already paid her a lot of money, much of which goes for her to pay the GC & subs, and I just can't see screwing over so many people if I don't pay her the rest. That's the set up I've got with her - she oversees & pays for everything but the cabinets. And then, who will finish the work? It's right in the middle coming to an end. To change horses in midstream would be a huge challenge. Would the next person I hre to take over be any better? Not sure. Despite all the craziness I have with her, she knows the kitchen better than anyone. It's her design. I would have no idea how to handle any issues that would come up going forward. There are a lot of things she's done well. That she's a PITA and has the temperment of an "artiste" to go with it, doesn't mean that I can just toss her out of this job. She and I are both very invested in this project. From simply a human perspective, I know her. I just can't do that to her and the other people who have been in here working for me. I just want this to be done already.
