Comments (18)Thanks again everyone, your kind comments are greatly appreciated. Judy, thank you, that was so sweet of you to say that. The rose your are talking about is St. Patrick - a lovely HT. Of course it is washed out looking on this picture. Judy I am not quite sure which path you are talking about. Is it the one that goes through the new bed, leading to the shade garden. If so, that path goes through and behind the shade garden. Right in the middle of it is small circular lawn which I hope to add a fountain to the centre. There WILL be a seat in that area. I may post some of the shade garden pics after the next couple of batches (posted before) but You may get more of an idea. Daun, I have dabbled with HMF and posted some pics, but I have many more that I would like to post there. Yes I do have some roses listed there, but not many, and No my garden is not on the site. (under Pauline's Roses) Thank you also so much Sheri and Les and Jeanie. I will post some close ups as soon as I can. I do have trouble with my wide angled shots, detail not clear enough and washed out. All other aspects of my camera are great, but I get frustrated and actually took almost three days off from the garden just to try and go through my manual to get better pics and experiment. I really got myself in a mess. changing all the settings to find out that that was not want I wanted either and changed them all back again.. Very frustrating. I will get me that Cannon, yet! heehee! Bustopher, here's one for you Here, there are purple petunias, lobelia, and campanula in the rear rose bed, blue and white. I also grow lots of different campanulas which I will post pics when I am more caught up also Johnson's Blue geranium, just started delphiniums, of course Hydrangeas and fall asters. Thanks again everyone for your great comments. Pauline - Vancouver Island...See More1st season rose disappointments
Comments (23)I don't think I'd worry too much about Abe. I bought both Queen of Sweden and Jubilee Celebration last spring and neither of them bloomed at all last year. This year they both bloomed in the spring and I think QoS is putting on some new buds now. I really think they need a while to settle in and root well before they start to really grow and bloom so be patient. I did buy a few this year that have not done anything yet. However, most of them were cheapie bagged roses and so not the best quality. If they make it fine. If not I won't be broken up about it. The only one that has been a bit of a disappointment is the very expensive mini, Cutie Pie, that I bought from a local nursery. When I picked it up in May it was loaded with buds and bloomed great. Since I dead headed it in mid June it has just sat there. Not one sign of new growth anywhere on it! I'm thinking of giving it a light pruning to see if that will stimulate some new growth....See MoreFloribunda Tree Rose - Life of the Party (1st year - 2nd flush)
Comments (10)Wow !! Yours is the most healthy & beautiful bush. So pretty, how do you fertilize it for such amazing colors? Local rose park's bi-color roses look really bad after rain, like spotty colors on Double Delight and Easter Basket. Not sure if it's their fertilizer high in phosphorus, or our day-long rain....See MoreDavid Austin Shrub Rose - Gabriel Oak (1st year - 2nd flush)
Comments (34)Hi Caroline, I think I live quite near you. I look forward to reading your posts and experiences with David Austin roses since we are pretty much in the same zone. Like you, I hope I live long enough to see all my Austins grow and thrive since I am a latecomer with my addiction for them. I have a large rose garden that finally, just this year has begun to reward us for all our very hard work. I had a thriving crop of thistle that has taken us 12 years to overcome but we won the battle. We have very heavy clay soils and have been hauling trailer loads of horse manure compost in every few weeks to help. We see wonderful results. Maybe we can meet in person one day and share our love of roses....See MoreHoang Ton - Zone 9a
