UPDATE to my "Emergency Citrus Saving" thread - and a thank you!
Comments (7)Great to see some improvement! I used the same soil method and am having good results. I know some people on here are fancy with soil mixes, but a simple bag of citrus soil and extra perlite seemed easier. As far as spraying the tree, you are right to use Neem at recommended dosages. I almost want to say that you could do without the alcohol. Neem works wonders on its own. Spraying twice a month would be a bit much. You should give it a "shower" once or twice a month with plain water in the bathtub, but only spray when there is something wrong. You can spritz with water whenever you want. Your tree will love any extra humidity. In the future invest in a bottle of liquid seaweed and mix that into a spray bottle as a "treat" for Mr. Meyer. He will benefit from foliage feeding once a month. That is also a natural deterrent against sap sucking insects (at least one of my gardening books says so). I would still expect to get scale or spider mites every winter. Or both. My meyer lemons trunk is pot marked with dead knots of previous branches that totally died back. This is actually the first winter my tree hasnt died back - and im glad because I have put in a lot more effort this year. Being in a cold zone it takes a lot more ambition to keep a lemon tree happy and healthy - it would have to be something sentimental to you or it would get forgotten. Your trees new growth looks good. It will take some time, but more growth is on the way. Any older leaves that are left will probably get dropped at some point as the tree makes way for new growth to replace them. Citrus will drop their older leaves anyways to replace with new better working ones - I think any single leaf has about 1 year of working life. Do you have a temp/humidity meter? If not I would highly recommend purchasing one. For me its the easiest way to know for sure if those needs are being met. Its hard to tell how much a humidifier actually raises ambient humidity around your tree, but keep in mind that if you are getting 'shocks' in the house then it is way too dry for a lemon. Enjoyed your update and pics! Keep up with the tree daily and I hope my advice doesn't turn you into a crazy citrus lady! ;-)...See MoreSpring Swap '09 Picture Thread!
Comments (4)Hi all, I just posted this on the "Swap thank you" thread, and I'm gonna post it here too! I seem to have come home with fewer of the black plastic plant trays than I arrived with! I really, really need them to grow stuff in and to carry stuff around in for the swaps, so if you wound up with oneor morewould you please keep them and bring them back to the Fall Swap so I can get them back to use again? I use them to move stuff around my yard when Im growing it before the swap, and with as much as I bring, it would be impossible to handle it all without the trays to put it in. Thank you all, I really appreciate it, Skybird...See MoreShout out to pattygrow5 .....Thank You!!! :)
Comments (26)I'm tired here as I was up too late again... but, I just noticed this thread and had to comment. Yes, it's a whole lot of work that totally was noticed by us. We appreciate all our valuable seeds from this big swap. This was my first "want list" swap ever, so I learned a lot, had a ball of fun, got to know better or for the first time a whole lot of wonderful participants and a wonderful HOST and co-host, AND got some treasured seeds as well along with some surprises I can't wait to grow out. I appreciate that you put every waking moment outside of working and family have to's into this swap. Thank you! Blessings, Angela...See MorePlease help with my Master Bedroom. Comments (22)Thank you for your replies. Shirlpp, I will try the paint programs offered by BM and SW again. I did try it a few months ago but I was unable to download the pictures to the site Yesterday, I did cut out different headboards and resize them to fit mine and they are nice. After doing this, I realized I do love my headboard when it has pretty pillows on it and maybe I need more light in the room and a different wall color. It is the highlighted rustic color that is clashing with my wall color in person and when not lit up looks dirty to me. Blubird, maybe you are right I need another wall color than what I had in mind. Blubird and Linda Dornan, I have thought about moving the armoire against the wall to allow light in so the headboard could be lit up and removing the small pottery barn white chair to another room. I have a 32" LCD TV (bought in 2007 the year of the new furniture) in the armoire. If the armoire is not in front of my bed or catty cornered, I may not be able to see it lying in bed at night. Also the armoire's doors need enough clearance to open. I wonder if I should put the TV on the dresser in front of the bed and use the armoire for clothing if I can't see the TV when I move it against the wall which I see now I should do. There is a vent (air conditioning and heating) under each window. I wish I did not have the balcony door in the middle of the room that I can't cover in case I have to go out there in an emergency like I did when it was leaking into my foyer area in my living room downstairs. Unfortunately I need all the pieces of furniture and have no room in the rest of my townhouse. I will look for more replies later on and see if there are any other suggestions. Thank you! I missed everyone! You are all such wonderful people and many of you have amazing decorating talent....See More
