Switch to disable one vent in winter ?
Comments (15)I can't remember the reference for doing my system the way it is. Everything I've read since says it's backwards. I think the guy that installed the greenhouse and fans told me to do it this way. It could be because I also have full ridge vents on both sides and they open first. Except I had them turned off in the winter since I had the solar pool cover over the greenhouse. But most people that sell and install greenhouses usually don't know how they should work. If I had listened to the salesman I would only have one shutter and fan. They told me I was using way too much ventilation. I had ordered 30 inch shutters and they made me order 24 because it would interfer with the framing. I though they would just adjust the framework like they did for the door. I don't seem to have any problems with my plants. And I don't have too much ventilation. The fans and shutters are higher for the most part than the plants. I can always reverse the relay and have it on the fans so they come on after the shutters open. Or put in another thermostat. I'll get my DH to that and see how it works out....See MoreElectric Fan to Cool 'wine cooler'
Comments (7)Thank you for providing your insight and suggestions. We already have a wine cooler that is not a "built-in" model and are trying to use a semi-built-in. The built-in models we've see cost around $700 and the one we have was about $250. Other thoughts we had was to cut out an opening in the adjacent cabinet (a sink base) exactly where the wine cooler's side vents are located. The opening would be covered w/ a grill/register to allow heat to escape into the sink base and vent thru the openings around the sink base doors. I like the suggestion of the Fan that turns on whenever the compressor starts. Not worried about voiding the warranty as the Wine Cooler is fairly inexpensive and we want to re-purpose instead of buying new. Thanks, Tom...See MoreRaise your hand if you...
Comments (31)Wow, I'm not feeling so bad now! I have disclosed from the very beginning, however, to my contractor, cabinet maker, and the place where we got our flooring that I'm super indecisive, unsure of my design/color abilities. And I reminded them of that each time I changed my mind, or doubted any decisions too! Really, it's easier for me to list what I haven't changed...Dura-ceramic flooring in "Chocolate", and the 1X1 glass/slate tile for the border in the master shower. Thats IT...those are the only 2 things in this whole build so far that I saw, fell in love with, had to have, and didn't stray from. When we picked the flooring (the 1st time) Dh was with and I couldn't decide between two carpets so I let him choose..I haven't changed that, I don't dare! The house is framed, roof is done, windows are in, plumbing rough in is done, electrical rough in is in the works. Something tells me, there will be a "few" more things in this process for me to change my mind about! From the floor planning stage, to Siding, windows (brand, size, color, grilles, placement, type), shingles (brand, style, color), kitchen layout, island shape, cabinet wood, cabinet stain color, outlets, other electrical and plumbing specifics, TV's on wall or not, fireplace or not, ceiling fans or not, laundry room window (changed that a few times)...oh gosh, I could go on and on! My DH just doesn't understand how it can be so hard for me! I'm a visual person though...I need to see it to see if I'm going to like it...I can't imagine how it's going to look. The next 6 weeks or so are going to be rough...and it's all going to be worth it!...See MoreThermostat Placement
Comments (6)As much as we would like to believe different, issues like t-stat placement are often iffy at best when advisor can't be there in person. Inevitabley the poster omits one or more important facts that will cause expert to make a poor reccomendation. Not trying to discourage you but just saying you have to be willing to go through a lot of effort to do it. Until someone comes along that can collect information from you and make an informed reccomendation, may I offer a temporary aproach? Carfully check dryer vent for restriction and leakage because dryer shouldn't be having noticable effect on stat. No suprise long hot showers are causing a problem but that can be helped if not eliminated without moving stat. Meanwhile let's be sure everyone is on same page before going farther. Describe exactly what effect each is having and for how long. We know what might happen but it's best to know something unordinarry isn't happening....See MoreElmer J Fudd
