Something eating my Fourth of July rose buds

Hello… I am a relatively new Rose Gardener. I’ve had several for several years, but I was lucky enough to have very few problems. This year, my Fourth of July rose is being attacked by something. I looked it up and it seems like it might be thrips, and I got beneficial nematodes which won’t hurt it even if it isn’t thrips, but I would like to be sure. Whatever it is attacks the buds, and chews into them. It doesn’t look like it’s a single hole made by something like a caterpillar, just like some thing is nomming on the entire bud, leaving the stamens and sometimes a few petals. I pinched off the buds because I didn’t want whatever it was to infest the rest, but I missed this one and it opened with half its petals. Any ideas? Any suggestions as to how to treat this without the use of crazy chemicals that will just kill all of my pollinators?
