It doesn't need deletion and reposting! Lots of folks can and do access the 'garden' forum although one might get increased readership with other gardening forums listed as well.

In any case, I would not recommend cutting back the NZ flax hard. If the roots were undamaged from the cold, the plant should regenerate but it will look like cr*p for several years while it is growing back. Instead, it is recommended to prune out individual heavily damaged fronds down to the base of the plant. And yo will need very sharp pruners to do so.....those fronds are very fibrous and tough!

I would add that phormiums, NZ flax, which are common in Puget Sound area gardens, are often damaged or beat up with winter winds. I doubt this is a cold damage issue - it wasn't anywhere cold enough last winter to cause damage to flax and a cold damaged flax just does not have just a few 'burnt' ends - but rather is just showing signs of winter wear and tear. Even just clipping off the damaged ends will improve the look of the plant but be much less of a radical procedure than hard pruning or cutting back to the ground.

With the highly unnecessary feature of cross posting to 3 different forums, we often encounter posts that appear in forums that have little relevance to the subject matter, especially with new posters who are unfamiliar with the site and how to locate other appropriate forums. Most just deal with it instead of making a big fuss.

Thanks Garden gal, I have been away for 3 years and appears the Houzz format has changed somewhat, garden discussions used to be tolerated in Design Dilemma. I am interested in all things real estate. I will figure it out and thanks for your advice about the flax plant
