Decorating the open space above kitchen cabinets
Comments (21)Redfeather, I lived most of my life in TX and I agree that silk greenery on top of the cabinets (and lots of it) seems to be a TX thing. We moved to the Carolinas 2 years ago and my kitchen felt so stark I put up several items on top of the cabinets to soften the look and make the kitchen feel more homey. Some of my neighbors have left the tops of their cabinets bare, but their kitchens have backsplashes with some visual interest. Personally, I like the look of the plants and I think it's a matter of personal preference and decorating style. I think your pottery would look nice grouped with greenery or baskets or some wrought iron pieces. I am posting a couple of my kitchen photos (hopefully no one will tease me too much :) ) Please disregard the tupperware and Halloween buckets! I also wanted to add that my original intent was not to put so much stuff on top of the cabinets and just do a few groupings instead. Personally, I feel like grouping smay work better in kitchens with taller spaces above the cabinets - but that's just my 2 cents : )...See MoreNeed help decorating a TV alcove above fireplace
Comments (8)Leave the TV by itself....doesn't need decorating but could you have glass doors put on the left side of the fireplace where your components are? If not that....take measurements and go to a store that sells baskets and find a basket that fits each shelf and put your components and discs and other miscellanious things in the baskets....See MoreHelp me decorate my fireplace accent wall
Comments (4)Not a pro, but here are my thoughts... I think your mantle is cluttered, I'd clear the small items and replace w/ a few, more substantial objects (a plant, a vase, large candle sticks, something seasonal, etc). The pic above the fireplace is pretty - but the dimensions seem off as it's nearly the same width as the fireplace, I wonder if it would look better 6-8 inches above sofa? The black picture frames are pretty, but they might be too high, double check they're at the right height - the middle of the art should be 57-60 inches off the ground. Maybe it's just the angle of the pic - but I'd center the sofa (facing the fireplace) and the rug with the fireplace. It's a real pretty space, clean & cozy :-)...See MorePlease help me space out pendants above 10 ft peninsula!
Comments (13)24" is huge so I can see that would lead to two on most islands/peninsulas! They are lovely. I like that you don't think I need to put one over the sink. My guess is that my arch wanted to put one over the sink and so she brought them in tightly in order to avoid the cabinet on the right. If i have more flexibility with the sink (as you imply), I would keep the one on the left where it is and then shuffle the other two so they are evenly spaced but further to the right. I wasn't sure if there was something odd about not being centered on the sink. Would that idea work, seem normal?...See MoreLB Interiors
