My experience: refinish hardwood floors with Bona Traffic
Comments (22)OK I explain. It is a floating floor what we call in the UK engineered floor, so it is not solid throughout but a thickness of the wood mounted on a plywood base. It is a Malaysian wood, not so hard, so I suppose high heels could dent it perhaps, it is not the hardest. It is a click system not requiring glue, interesting. Now from Malaysia it says it has five factory coatings of which some contain aluminium oxide. It got worn out over the years. So a year ago I sanded the wood with the machines with the correct paper and vacuumed well. Then I applied one coat of Bona Traffic silk, you know the glossy one. I then noticed a number of parts were very coarse to the touch. So after some hours I sanded again with slightly finer paper but still coarse. Now I applied again Bona. Once again certain areas were coarse to the touch and you could see stains. So now I did a final very fine sanding but this was by hand with very fine paper particularly in the areas affected. It took me hours. Then I applied the third coat. I called the Bona representative who was at a loss!!! He gave me a bottle of Bona "refresh" it is a type of product to do another pass over. I applied it to the worse parts of the floor. Although one could see areas which were coarse to the touch and which did not look quite right the shine was sufficient to fool guests for Christmas. Now I am exactly one year on. In those area I mentioned there are now black marks. I attach some photos of the present situation with example of the black marks. (sorry I do not know how to create a new thread). I want to sand it and apply Bona again before New Year when my mother is visiting, my wife will just about tolerate me sanding on the 27th Dec. I had the suspicion it was the Bona product maybe the bottle I bought was old or had been exposed to low temperatures where I bought it from but the Bona representative told me it was very unlikely to be the case....See MorePlaced Granite Order Today, Now I've Changed my Mind-please help
Comments (20)I use American Express for all major purchases because they are so good at resolving disputes in favor of the consumer. If you really want to try to get out of the contract, then you should write a nice but firm letter to the company today. Do it today, because some states allow you to rescind a home improvement related contract within a certain time period (it could be 72 hours or less, if your state has such a law). Send it via both fax and certified mail so you have proof of how soon after you ordered the product you canceled it. (The fax guarantees they receive it today, but the formality of certified mail sometimes carries more weight.) I would use language like the following: "Dear _______: As you know from our conversation in your store this morning, I am very concerned that the Kashmir White granite I ordered from your company will be too susceptible to staining to use as kitchen counters. I appreciate that you gave me a sample of sealed Kashmir White to take home to test. I took the sample home and promptly tested it with food samples. Unfortunately, certain food products stained the sample easily; therefore, the product is not suitable for my stated intended use as kitchen counters. As I told you this morning, I would like to cancel the contract for Kashmir White counters and request that you reverse the charge for my $________ deposit. Because I am canceling within 48 hours [change time period if necessary] and before any templating or other work has been performed, I believe you should return my entire deposit." If you have to dispute the charge with Mastercard, the letter and proof of when it was mailed and faxed may help your case. The letter establishes that you promptly notified the merchant that the product would not be suitable for your intended use before the merchant did any work, and you had the slab on reserve for a very short period of time, so the merchant is not harmed by your cancellation. There is no guarantee this will work, but it is what I would do. Good luck....See MoreFloor staining starts tomorrow - Bona naturalseal vs classicseal
Comments (7)Never choose a floor colour without a sample. Ever. Never. Never. Never. It is CHEAPER to rebook a flooring professional than it is to pay for a full sand and refinish ($5/sf is the going rate...more if you use Bona Traffic HD). If you haven't decided by now, then you owe yourself the time to look at NaturalSeal. Have the flooring professional bring out a bit of the NaturalSeal to create a patch. Then tell him/her to go for coffee. When they come back you give them your decision. Now here's what I'm worried about....you never saw your wood floors with a COAT of FINISH over it. You only saw a patch of ClassicSeal on your floor without the top coat. Again, this is a no-no. A proper flooring decision DEMANDS a coat of your FINISH over top. So here what I would do for the finish. I would tell them to put down their two coats of Bona Traffic HD gloss. Then you will VIEW the gloss and decide if you want satin, matter or semi-gloss. They will finish the final coat the next day. Decide in haste; repent at leisure....See MoreHas anyone done one coat of Bona Naturalseal and 1 coat of Nordicseal?
Comments (27)It is normal. The small exposure of the end of the planks when it was stained DARK (how many years ago?) is to blame. There isn't much to be done. Every time you do a full sand (3 grit levels) you remove 20 years of life off of your wood. If you try to get rid of this tick of colour (which 99.99999% of people will NOT notice...even if you point it out to them) you can and WILL reduce the life of your wood. This is one of those 'meh' moments. The decision to go DARK some 15-20 years ago set up this situation. Let it be. There are worse things out there then a hint of left-over stain colour in a wood floor....like a roof that needs repair...or hurricanes...tornados...ground water contamination, etc. In 6 weeks you won't even remember what it was that made you nervous....See MoreAllie
