Comments (11)I saw your comment megslam06 and I had to chime in! Be careful with NordicSeal....I wanted that also, as I loved the look of it that I had seen online. It was gorgeous. So, we went for it! Nordic Seal dries very quickly and after the first coat we could see all of the overlap marks - like white lines throughout the entire house. We ended up having to re-sand the everything and start again. We hired someone who works exclusively with Bona products and even he said that in theory Nordic Seal is a great idea (when you try it in on a small patch of wood as a sample), but in practice it is almost impossible to get a flawless finish with no overlap. Anyway, we went with Bona Natural and Traffic HD Natural on top, as we really wanted the look and feel of unfinished wood. We are so happy that we did. Good luck! The floor guy might have established in his mind you wanted natural color, then the discussion turned to which top coat to use. We don't do a whole lot of raw wood look. One might think it's common looking online but depending on where you are, the floor finishers may have never been exposed to it....See MoreBona Sealers on my White Oak
Comments (82)Can anyone speak to whether or not you can (or even should) just do three layers of the bona HD finish on raw maple or if that impacts the integrity of the floor and you need to use a seal (irrespective of stain) because it’s maple and doesn’t really take stain anyways. The only thing I might respectfully disagree with you on is in regards to the first 3 pictures (and arguably the gauge in the mudroom). I’ve had hand scraped floors before and never had (or seen) marks like those. Also, those marks are there and in one other place nearby and they look nothing like the “light hand scraping” everywhere else in the house. It looks like they drug a giant pitch fork along the floor twice. I’m trying to decide if we could get away with leaving them. That’s what I’m not sure of since it’s only in those 2 places and they’re so different. You can’t see it when standing directly over it, but you definitely see it and know it shouldn’t be there when you take a step or two away from it. Can the guys still fill holes and gaps now that final poly was done? And by filling gaps, are you also referencing the space between stairs and risers as well as where the stairs meet the wall? I really like the main guy and his entire crew. They’re great guys and have tried to make me happy. 4 years agoSorry! We decided to go with Naturalseal and HD traffic in satin. Our guys said you need to do two coats of naturalseal vs one. I am not sure why. I think this sample is just one coat of each.
Left has HD satin on it. Right has extra matte on it.

2 years agoI agonized over what to do with my red oak flooring. I had finally decided to go with NaturalSeal until samples went down o
n my floors. I just could not get past the raw look of the NaturalSeal or the pink that the white tint caused. We ultimately chose to go with Bona ClassicSeal topped with Traffic HD satin. It gave a beautiful, light natural finish to the floor that i believe will be timeless. I hope this helps others with their decision!
