100% Clear hardwood sealer for white oak
Comments (5)The Loba Sealant and then using the Loba line (I'm a fan of the 2K Supra AT in the satin) will give you everything you want. I agree that several of the Bona's will add a snick of yellow when used. White Oak needs the sealant before the finish is applied because White Oak has tannin pull with water based polyurethanes....See MoreNew 8" white oak- Bona Traffic advice
Comments (16)These floors look great and I love the herringbone. Well my floors were coming out looking so good and my contractor’s flooring guy used SEMI GLOSS for the finish even though we all told him not to and to use Satin. Everyone I talked to suggested satin. He said he used semi gloss by accident. So far he only did one coat, can he cover with one coat of Satin and the he’ll be ok? I do not want the shiny floor look. My floors are white oak select so I want the floors to shine through not the gloss....See MoreWhite Oak: Floor Pros! Qs on Nordic and Bona “haze”
Comments (73)I really appreciate these updates! It looks like the Bona products have really held up as far as color is concerned. We have LVP throughout and just purchased white oak stair treads. I tried and tried to match with stain but the yellow kept bleeding through. I’m now considering the Bona finish on my treads and keeping the natural oak look. Unfortunately the Bona is only sold in large sizes and I will probably use less than half of it. Your treads look really good! You said they were stained with minwax weathered oak. Do you happen to know if there was a sealer applied first or what the top coat was if any? I think that’s where I may be going wrong. Any advice you can offer is greatly appreciated! Thanks again for taking the time!...See MoreWhite oak floors - Bona Drifast vs NordicSeal? Mega vs Traffic?
Comments (11)Sorry, just saw this. I feel two coats of finish is sufficient when applied over sealer at the prescribed rate. This is especially true for Traffic which goes on heavier (350-400 sq. ft/gallon for Traffic, 500-600 for Mega). More coats of finish make the floor smoother, filling in the grain, and making wear and scratches more evident. If you're in a situation where you need more longevity, you can have more coats applied and live with the consequences. In most residential situations my customers want their floor recoated when it looks bad due to wear and scratches, not when the finish wears through. The surface accumulates the same amount of wear and scratches whether it has 2 coats or 20 coats, at which point it will look a bit shabby and require a recoat....See MoreFlora
