OJ -- my 94 year old mother got a similar call. They called late in the evening (I'm sure she was asleep) to ask her about her computer. Then they proceeded to ask her if she had a computer! She said no, she doesn't have one and that was the end of the conversation. The caller ID also said Florida. Actually, my mom does have a computer but it's the rest of the family that uses it when we are there. She doesn't go near it. She knows better than to buy anything unsolicited over the phone. I also worry that calls like this are people calling to see if the house is empty so they can break in. I suppose they could be parked in front of the house with a cell phone number from Florida to circumvent the caller id. What a world we live in.

thanks everyone, sorry I'm so slow to respond, the computer has been acting up. I do think she knew something was happening on Tues (her brother's funneral) I usually have one "talking time" with her over the summer when I'm home usually she just answers questions I ask her but it's something. It used to be that we could plan on once a week, then once a month but now it's down to a few times a year. I can only hope her mind is busy thinking and that she doesn't realize she's just lying in a fetal position for hours on end. We cherish when she does talk. When she first started getting forgetful she made the comment to me that she didn't want to say or do anything to embarrass us girls and I think she just shut down with that fear in her head. She's such a proud woman and would hate the person she has become. Thanks for all the comments. Diane

Believe me....when you have nice neighbors and get along well with them...you are Blessed. There seems to be so much bickering between so many of the tenants in our Apt bldg, I mostly keep to myself. But last spring one of the neighbors did such a beautiful thing for us. He lived in a 2 br downstairs and we were in a 2 br up, and were trying very hard to find a main floor 2 br apt in the cluster of 3 small towns where we live. There was an empty 2 br next to us up, and he offered to move up there, so we could take his apt. After the move was over, we ordered a nice gift box for him from Omaha Steaks. He likes to BBQ so he was real pleased. Like I said a friendly relationship with one's neighbors is a treasure. Steve, yours was a nice story to read about this morning.

It is crazy. We were so wet, and flooding, and with fungal and bacterial diseases breaking out on every shrub, tree, weed and grass. Now the green has gone brown and dry. This happened a few years back. I think it was in the summer of 2008. We'd had all that rain (and flooding, sound familiar?) in 2007 and the 2008 started out pretty decently. We seemed green and wet and it was nice enough, and then it was like we hit a brick wall and suddenly were hot and dry. This month reminds me very much of that year, and from what I remember of 2008, we ended up miserably hot, dry and back in drought with tons of wildfires through April 2009. I really don't want for this year to end up like that year did. I did water the garden today. I left the gate open and the chickens were all over the place. They like the damp mulch, and they weren't really bothering anything. Since I've been letting them into the garden for a few hours a day, the grasshoppers are disappearing. If they start pecking tomatoes (which they haven't done at all yet), then I'll have to keep the gate closed and ban the poultry from the garden.
