Odd Call, Great Surprise

Just as I was coming in the house from dinner, the phone was ringing and I saw it was the next door neighbor.

When I picked up the phone she just wanted to let me know there was a package on our doorstep. I thought this was a bit strange that they were calling, as my other half is always receiving packages from UPS, so I said thanks, asked him if he had ordered something and went to check to see what it was. Not only was his order there, but a big box from the Omaha Steak Company. Once inside I saw it was from the neighbor and the label said "Just a thanks for taking care of the dogs".

I was really touched by that. We have keys to each others houses and if we need the dog let out they come over and take care of it and vice versa with us. We have just the one, but they have two and it's really no problem as both their dogs are well behaved. Well, at least one is the other is a puppy, so she's sometimes a bit of a handful.

I'm still sitting here thinking what a nice thoughtful thing for them to do.

I'm curious to hear whether anyone who has this rose can tell me how aggressively suckering it is. I've just received a band from RVR, but don't want to put it in a mixed bed if it will scamper at will from one end to the other. I have some "hell strip" locations that would keep it contained, if necessary, but the hell strips require hand watering, so I tend to plant drought tolerant plants there...which I guess Gallicas are, but I like to pamper roses.

Mattie I have no clue what bm has done with her past dogs and cats she gets everytime her and her bf get their own place. I do feel sorry for those pets though. I almost think that people should go through some kind of adoption process when getting a pet! Too many people do not have stable living situations or the money to properly take care of pets but they get them anyways. Then they ruin that pets life just like you said. LH the kids don't know what to think about the party. Older sd just rolls her eyes at bm's promises, middle sd has times where she does the same and other times she gets excited and then let down. SS is going through the believe all bm says and then get let down phase. It is sad to see, but we can't shelter them from it all unfortunately. The welfare system makes me so mad! I really think that if you need welfare then you should have some guidelines to follow such as: -no pets -no brand new vehicles -monthly drug testing -a time limit on being on welfare It really makes me mad when I see people on welfare walking around in their brand name clothes, with their highlighted hair and carrying Coach purses. I just want to grab their link card out of their hand and tell them they could pay for their groceries if they stopped spending their money on the extras in life. Sometimes I wish I could just sit outside bm's places as she moves and leaves behind all kinds of new items they can't bring with them. Moving from state to state all the time I know they don't bring everything with. Such a waste!

Yes, Sue, there have been a few times when this little story about the blocks would come up in conversation. Usually at a time when DD was feeling deprived or having a pity party, and I would ask her if it was because she never got the blocks. lol. It was kind of a joke between us. I didn't take the picture. My DGD's DH is the camera guy and I asked him to get a good shot as she opened the package. It is great, isn't it? About next year? Geezz, give me a break!! I'm glad you all enjoyed this little story, and it just goes to prove that it doesn't take much to make someone happy. AND, if she had gotten the blocks, there wouldn't have been a story to remember. I love the name, she is definitely a Fluff-muffin! I’ll be checking back to see what your vet says about her issues. I always found it impossible to name a dog before I got to know their personality. We thought we’d give our boy a tough manly name, like Rex, or Leo. But then we realized he is a ham and a clown, plus he’s always glued to my side, so Bud/Buddy he became (like the song, My buddy, wherever I go, he goes) Hope you don’t mind one more picture of our little ham

Nice, wish I had a neighbor like that. There are times when I have to run home from work to let the dogs out. We don't have any neighbors on either side of us, or rather they are just summer folk.

Believe me....when you have nice neighbors and get along well with them...you are Blessed. There seems to be so much bickering between so many of the tenants in our Apt bldg, I mostly keep to myself. But last spring one of the neighbors did such a beautiful thing for us. He lived in a 2 br downstairs and we were in a 2 br up, and were trying very hard to find a main floor 2 br apt in the cluster of 3 small towns where we live. There was an empty 2 br next to us up, and he offered to move up there, so we could take his apt. After the move was over, we ordered a nice gift box for him from Omaha Steaks. He likes to BBQ so he was real pleased. Like I said a friendly relationship with one's neighbors is a treasure. Steve, yours was a nice story to read about this morning.

OT, but when I read Omaha Steaks, I was thinking I hope you got a kite. Not sure if you watched last season's Celebrity Apprentice where goofy Gary Busey decide to add a kite to the Omaha Steaks promotion.

That is a really nice gesture from your neighbor. We have good neighbors like that also.
