Your cabinets seem in good shape. I would update backsplash with some light one, it looks dark. You can pick color from countertop for it.

Paint the cabinets and new countertops and backsplashes can give you the white kitchen of your dreams. Cabinet painting should be done by a pro.

I'm not sure why you'd want to give up a wall oven, unless you really needed the cabinet space. But that would require a more substantial remodel. I'd make my peace with it.

I like your cabinets but not the counters and splash. I'd keep the cabinets and go with counters/splash in a brown tone. And paint the walls a lighter color. And maybe change out the pendants.

Oh....if you want a slide in range, I'm thinking that it would replace the cooktop. You could then use the space that the wall ovens occupied as a pantry.

Sounds like you're considering buying this one and are not in it yet. Beautiful cabinets! Except for the dark countertops and backsplash it looks to be a nice kitchen. Best advice is to live with it for a year and see how it functions for you before making any decisions. Covid-19 has impacted delivery on many appliances and on contractors, so you may be in for a wait anyway. Do you prefer a slide-in range because that's what you've always had? Sometimes it pays to try out a different way of doing things and often it turns out to be an improvement. I'd much rather retrieve items from the higher wall ovens than to bend over a range oven while pots are simmering on top.

The cabinets of your kitchen look lovely, but the overall look could be updated. I would keep the cabinets as is, but update the counters to something lighter. Also lighter on the backsplash. Change the pendants, lighten the color on the walls. If you are set on a white kitchen, have you thought about refacing or painting (by pro) just the uppers. Or adding some glass panels to the doors for some of the uppers. Also, if you are set on the slide in range, Tara's suggestion about the pantry of you don't have one would be good. But I love my walk ovens and wouldn't go back. Good luck on the renovating!

My thinking re: the slide in vs wall oven is two fold one I can extend lighter counters and lighter backsplash and the slide in would break up the brown cabinets on the bottom. I have had wall ovens only once in a rental a decade ago they were fine but we’re a two adult household and really wouldn’t use them often...maybe Christmas and that’s it. I like the idea of glass!

@deco we just closed. Also went to a Brookhaven/wood mode dealer and we’re looking at 25k easy just for cabinets, not including labor. Ouch.

Love the cabinets! Change countertops and backsplash. The pendant lights add a little fun and whimsy! I would keep them. Once you change the countertops and backsplash then decide on paint color

I would leave the wall ovens until they need to be replaced.
And then do a pretty range or something.
I would keep the cabinets.
Get an estimate for taking them to the ceiling or adding more molding up top. I’d change out the hardware - cheapish easy fix.
New pendants.

Photos tend to make oak flooring orange/yellow but some times it is the actual color. If it is the latter, perhaps a new stain color should be considered, too. Also, we often suggest here that if you just closed, that you might consider waiting to make any changes until you live in your home for a year and see what actually works for you and what doesn't. Sometimes jumping right in can cause regrets down the road and money thrown away. And in the meantime you can start gathering ideas, research and put together a budget. And if you are not aware, there is a huge problem with the supply chain right now and even finding a contractor that isn't booked out till the end of time is a miracle. I'm going through this first hand right now and if I was in a position to have waited till things smoothed out, I would have. Especially if you just moved in.. Enjoy your new home :)

Love your kitchen! Love the cabinets! Even the hardware is good. But that awful backsplash is dating it and must GO. The countertop is a bit blah, too. I would go with a pure white quartz or Corian and a pretty tile splash. You might also remove the uppers over the micro and upgrade to a stainless hood, and get rid of that drywall box hiding the vent. I would not replace or paint those cabinets. They are perfectly on trend. Congrats!

Agree with others, change the countertops, backsplash, pendant lights and paint. Leave the cabinets, floor, and appliances as is. Is there any way to change the location of the sink? I would not be happy with the sink facing the wall in the corner.

I agree with everyone who said replace countertop and backsplash with something light, replace pendants and hardware in a matching finish, and paint walls lighter. I’m going to also advocate for keeping that double oven which looks to be in great shape! (I have double ovens in my primary residence and my beach house and I would never do anything else-love them!) That plus your cooktop is a much higher end look than a moderately priced slide in range and you will be able to keep those cabinets intact. Congrats on your new home!

I have talked to now 2 different people and the earliest anyone can start is August. I am planning to replace appliances with kitchenaid. So though a slide in, not quite basic. I would love to relocate the sink but it would involve completely reconfiguring the kitchen which I think would lead to some new cabinets to make things work. I hear what everyone is saying about waiting maybe that’s sound advice.

It's 100% sound advice! In a "new to you" house, you never know what other fish you may have to fry before you get to the cosmetics. Even with inspections, there can be surprises.

I bought my home knowing that it needed renovated from end to end. While in escrow I planned what I was going to do and the order it was going to get done. About a week before close I was in the ER, needed surgery and was diagnosed with cancer. I got out of the hospital on a Friday and closed on my house that Monday. It was a tough way to be forced to hold off on renovations, but while I was living in the home I found my priorities changed. My master bath became the top priority - it didn't function well and drove me crazy. The Laundry/pantry is another area that I thought was functional, but found that it was really cramped. The kitchen has old, ugly cabinets and I want to replace them, but it functions really well. My ideas that I would open up a wall would reduce the cabinet space and that wouldn't work nearly as well as keeping the original design and I've learned to like the fact that the kitchen isn't open to the living room.

I had lived with open concept for 20 years and it was the comfortable choice, but living with the closed kitchen I learned to appreciate the space and found that different wasn't bad.

Changing the granite to something lighter could help, but that’s a lot of money. Painting the walls and ceiling a light color found in the granite (white, cream....a light color) would help. Whatever you do, DO NOT add any more brown. Can you use brighter pendant and recessed lighting? A talented cabinet painter can prep and paint your cabinets a lighter color, but I would try the light wall and ceiling paint and the brighter lighting first.

IMO live there as it is for the next 3-6 months for sure before doing any major work. IMO your cabinets arw dated not so much the finish as the actual cabinets which now relly should all be drawers where ever possible. As for appliances take some time to really think about how you use every one IMO no maker makes all well. For instance I would never have a GE DW only Bosch. I have no idea how old you are but wall ovens are much nicer to use than bending down to get stuff from a range oven. That is also the reason for drawers insted of regular cabinets for base ones. I certainly would NOT spend any major money here until you live with the way it is .The advice to get to work on the lighting is very sound and all those fixtures should be LEDs 4000K. To be honest from what I see this is aliveable kitchen for now.

Thanks for that additional info. @deco. I don’t know how economical it would be to change cabinets to drawers? The island does have pull outs thankfully. We are going to have the place painted and wait. At least a couple months to get accustomed to the place. I have a quote on painting the cabinets white that’s financially feasible but you all are right I don’t know what will really work with the layout. Maybe I’m fine with wall ovens and can’t deal with a corner sink.

If your stain on your cabinets are in great shape, before finalizing painting them just do your research on how the finish will wear as painting them will not have the factory finish. And if it a concern to you, white is higher in maintenance than stain. I've had both in numerous homes and if I had to choose, stain would always win if the cabinets weren't going to have the factory finish.

just a thought: slide in range with stainless deco hood above. in double oven cabinet-built in microwave and single oven. thus keeping your 2 ovens. if you only need the oven from the slide in range. add a shelf in the oven opening to create open coffee bar area.

@tedbixby the quote I have is a company that strips the cabinets down and gets close to replicating a factory finish. They’re cured with UV and have a 5yr warranty. They said if I wanted to keep the stain look with the grain showing I’d have to go darker. :/

Irene, how much does that company charge to paint them? if you do paint, I'd seriously look at moving that sink from corner.

I wouldn't worry about the grain if you want to go lighter. It's not they're red oak.

I had mine painted (15 years old, standard brown stain on birch) white, new countertops/backsplash. made a world of difference.

If you want a change, I'd go w/ diff countertops and a tile splash, new pendant lighting and a new wall color. If that still isn't enough, you can always have them painted at a later time.

what I see are wood cabs that are decent enough. I would get larger handles and new knobs.

The blue pendants just don't go. the wall color is a very green/gray, floors are yellow/orange, red/brown stain cabs, and black/gray speckled granite. wow.

Notice how much lighter and brighter everything is. BTW, this is River White granite. (aka Kashmir White) inexpensive. Notice the pendants and sage green tile splash, along w/the lighter wall color.

also notice the larger handles!! see how short yours are? It's a beautiful kitchen. yours could look identical. If you can do an overhang and do some stools, do that.

another similar color cabs w/quartz, warmer color pendants (you need warmer tones, not cool blues and grays) and again, larger pulls.

@beth love the examples. And I’m writing down Kashmir granite. $6800 to “paint” all the cabinets and island. If we move the sink to the left the refrigerator would have to be relocated. If we move it to the right the range would have to move further down to the right.

Irene, 6800 is about right. If you do go w/the painting, think about doing some simple trim work on the island panel to give it a finished look. (or you may just want to paint the island)

do it on the end panel of the perimeter cabs too

Kashmir is better known now as River White. It's main claim to fame are little " red berries" sprinkled throughout the white.

a lot of the slabs have a cooler tone, some have more black

So, check diff stone yards if one doesn't have exactly what you like

another one you may like is White Ice granite. has more taupe/gray tones to it
