Tap Into 8 Easy Kitchen Sink Updates
Send dishwashing drudgery down the drain with these ideas for revitalizing the area around your kitchen sink
Washing the dishes is usually when I find myself thinking about my dream kitchen. My kitchen's current condition includes oak cabinets, old laminate and a floral tile backsplash. To say this isn't quite my style would be an understatement. A kitchen remodel isn't in the near future for me, but I still want to make simple updates.
I decided to start with the kitchen sink area. It's amazing how changing out fixtures, adding some plants and even changing the soap dispenser can make all the difference in getting your kitchen headed in the right direction. Here are some ideas you can use in your own kitchen.
I decided to start with the kitchen sink area. It's amazing how changing out fixtures, adding some plants and even changing the soap dispenser can make all the difference in getting your kitchen headed in the right direction. Here are some ideas you can use in your own kitchen.
1. Update the valance. When we moved into our new house it was sporting a rather outdated valance that was quickly removed. I'm currently hunting for the perfect fabric to add some color and pattern to the window above the sink.
2. Buy a new soap dispenser. Believe it or not, little touches like a soap dispenser are noticed in a kitchen. It's an item everyone uses, so it should be one that you love.
3. Plant a windowsill herb garden. Regardless of your climate, you can grow herbs in the windowsill. There's nothing quite like snipping fresh herbs when you need them, and the life they'll add to the space can't be beat.
4. Replace the pendant light. Pendant lights are available in many styles and at many price points. This simple update will make a huge impact in your space.
5. Save for a new faucet. Sink faucets can add so much style to the kitchen. Although they can be spendy, it's worth saving up for one you really love.
6. Decorate. Sometimes people forget that basic items like plates and cookbooks can be used decoratively. Displaying these items on a shelf instead of tucking them away in a cupboard will add color and personality to your kitchen.
7. Add fresh flowers. There's nothing quite like washing dishes next to an arrangement of freshly cut fragrant flowers. You'll be surprised by how happy they'll make you.
8. Find new dish towels. Updating your kitchen linens will breath new life into the space. It's also a great way to incorporate a new color scheme into your kitchen.
