Opinions on schlage vs. emtek vs. kwikset doorknobs
Comments (20)i sell doors and hardware. My opinion is, Must get a feel of all knobs of interest, before you go any farther. Then look at your purchase. Amortize your purchase, this long term or short term. Then look at your budget, but you spent $20k to $100k on a remodel or over $500k plus to build a house and you decided to save money on your locksets? You spent $1,000 plus on an entry door and your going to put a $100.00 lock on it? really? Our sales here are 90/95% Emtek. No one offers what they do. - Randy...See MoreAdvice from locksmiths or door lock pros, please
Comments (8)I purchased new door hardware for each interior door in our house when we moved in here in 2005, as both my father-in-law and I had arthritis and difficulty with turning knobs. I changed our doors to lever hardware. One has failed. I went back to Lowes to get a replacement, and the styles have changed. I have not contacted Kwickset, I am not sure it is worth it to try and find replacements for these super-cheap doorknobs. Maybe the knob styles don't vary as much as the lever styles do, but I would not trust that any particular style or model is going to be available for more than a few years. Just as Renovator8 gets a replacement set for his exterior door, I would suggest getting an extra interior door set. Having the "insurance" of a free replacement won't help you if the models have changed in the meanwhile. Since you are replacing existing door knobs, try doing it yourself. The hardest part is getting your tools together and opening the packaging. Pull up a video on You Tube. It really is an easy job....See Morequality affordable cabinet & door hardware
Comments (3)Classic Brass and Ashley Norton both make hardware that is quite a bit nicer than Emtek—solid and good quality. If you want to spend more, Rocky Mountain has beautiful selections. Good luck....See MoreDecent storm door hardware?
Comments (4)suzebell, I thought same. But this guy has been making excellent wood screen doors for many years, and says regular door hardware ends up with the bolt and hole not lining up eventually, due to door and jam responding to moisture over time. I don’t see how it’s so different from an exterior door, but I guess because it’s OUTSIDE the exterior door/walls?...See Morechispa
