I think it will be like getting a flu shot. Hopefully they have a year to figure it out and will be well-stocked. It was like Hunger Games here too at the beginning, but now there are signs outside all the pharmacies saying walk-ins welcome.

The original is becoming easier and easier to get, thanks to decisions to make more vaccine available at local pharmacies. I forecast that any boosters will also be easier.

It seemed next to impossible to schedule shots for a while here (Long Island) and I spent countless hours trying to get my parents, and then my family, signed up. All the while reading and hearing a more reasonable situation in other parts of the country. Now? Just went on both my medical provider’s app and the NYS web site and I could get one through either within an hour. Or any time after that. I doubt it’ll be hard to get a booster. I’m more concerned about getting people vaccinated in the first place.

I also think whoever wants one can get one asap. A lot of people probably aren't coming back for the booster so that will free some up. Any mad rush will be over before I get one. I specifically wanted Phizer so I just got my first shot this week. I could have had one over a month ago if I had been willing to accept another shot or I had been willing to get online at odd hours and do more searching or had been willing to pay a $100+ administration fee at a local urgent health care. We waited and made an appointment and got the shot two hours later. At this point, you can get whatever shot you want pretty much without hassle.

I scheduled ours online. It wouldn't let you book the 1st shot without scheduling the 2nd shot. While waiting in line I noticed people that did NOT have appointments were filling out paperwork, getting in with NO problem. So even tho they SAID you HAD to have an appointment...they let anyone in. This was at Kroger.

I was in Walmart the other day, and they are taking walk-ins for Covid shots. There was no one in line.

We got ours at a local hospital. When we checked in the system automatically sent us a text that had a link with 2 dates to pick for our booster shot. We made the appt while waiting the 15 minutes before leaving. It's too bad other places don't do this. Speaking to others in my area my experience was not the norm like it assumed it would be.

It should be noted that the second of the two part vaccines is NOT considered a booster shot. It is just the second part of a two dose injection. While it is suspected they may be necessary, booster vaccines for Covid have not yet been established as being a requirement or when/how frequently they will need to be administered if they are recommended. Hardly seems very reasonable to worry about something that is yet to materialize at all!

If they do deem boosters to be considered necessary, according to the CDC, they will be distributed the same way flu shots are now.

Some of the comments on here makes me wonder if some of the people who are not receiving the second shot think they are only a booster and not needed. I will be getting boosters and hopefully by the time they are available they contain the new variants. What is happening in India and Europe scares me. Seldom hear about Brazil because their leader has made the decision it is a nothing burger.

I've read that there has been discussion about combining the flu vaccine w/ booster Covid vaccine into one injection. From what I gather, it is dependent on flu vaccine being made using the mRNA technology, like the Covid vax is.

Maiflleur, I'm not sure if you're talking about my post or not. I'm aware the second shot is not a booster. I've heard a significant amount of people are not going back for the second shot. If they don't go back for that, they won't go back for the booster either. I know at least two people who had to be taken to the emergency room after the second shot. They have been told not to get any more shots. I think a lot of other people are thinking they won't be going back for more either.

Yes adellabedella it was your post but you missed that some people may be thinking the second shot is a booster rather than a necessary second step. If you call it a booster others will also.

I think we are in big trouble because so many folks are not their second shot or not getting vaccinated at all. That is why I am anxious for a booster. I think we are heading towards more variants. I also think after we vaccinate the 12-15 year olds, I think we should have a vaccine "last call." Then I think we should send our vaccine supply to India. Those people are in dire need and we should offer our help.

I live in the province of Alberta and we are #1 in NORTH AMERICA for covid per capita. Yay Alberta! We are averaging about 2000 cases per day in a province of just over 4 million people. My husband, younger son and his wife all have their first shot. My older son gets his in a couple days. I get mine in 7 days and my daughter gets hers in 12 days. Theirs a huge lineup for the shots. Luckily, Canadians in general are huge into making sure they get their shots. But the Covidiots are still making it spread like wildfire here.

I found out last night my oldest sister won't be getting it. She says she's not afraid of getting covid. A question I would like to ask her then is: why did you move out of your house for over 2 weeks when your son, your daughter and your two grandchildren who live with you, were infected with the virus. If you're not afraid of getting it, wouldn't you just stay home and see what happens? Obviously you are afraid of it or you wouldn't have moved out. (that felt good to get off my chest...)

I’m not hearing much talk about the booster except on television last night I heard that if and when boosters become available, we should try to get the booster vaccine from the same company that we got the original vaccine from. If that’s not possible the people who got the mRNA vaccine should get an mRNA booster (Pfizer or Moderna). And then Johnson & Johnson people should get a booster from that company. Hope this makes sense.

I think these questions should be encouraged. Many reading these pages might be looking for similar answers. I understood what you meant by saying 'shots' meaning our first series of two shots. My second Pfizer two weeks ago tomorrow.

Our first shots started/kicked in our immune response. Our second shots, identical to the first, gave a 'boost' to our existing immunity. So it is technically a 'booster'. I agree to just saying, "I have my second shot and am fully vaccinated at this time".

Another booster, possibly in the Fall, will do the same. It will boost and strengthen our existing immunity if they see a decline in protection. All this is unknown at this time. Fortunately we have the 50 thousand+ trial participants that are about 7 months from their shots....and still protected

The other unknowns are the variants. So far it looks promising.

And it seems the preparations are well under way for the Fall/Winter booster if/when it is needed. I agree that it should be much easier to get....like a flu shot. It is clear how devastating it would be if yet another spike in infection happens.

Helping to convince those still hesitant to get vaccinated is troubling.

Very true. Time will tell what rolls out. In the meantime, I hope more people get their heads out of their you-know-whats and realize that getting immunized is for others as well as for themselves.

It's funny how a large contingent of the "anti" and skeptic factions are people who consider themselves what I'll call "more loyal patriots" than others yet can't see clearly enough to understand that certain actions they refuse to pursue are in fact rather patriotic, for the good the nation.

Agreed Elmer--but still this WORRY is jumping the gun. Booster talk is all speculation at this time. We need to find a way to shake off the veil of fear this pandemic settled on so many.

Here in Florida we now have 11,800 cases of 3 different variants. 267 of those are hospitalized and we just had an 18 yr. old HS senior die yesterday.

The variants are the current worry so yes the boosters will be needed.

I agree. Likely to end up much like the annual flu vaccine...which is a bit of an educated guessing game to determine what flu strains will be predominate in the coming year and preparing the vaccine to cover those.
