Need Help Decorating Living Room
Comments (10)I agree with Em. The room/space just isn't big enough for both the sofa and the love seat. I would sell the love seat and would also put the sofa on the longer wall, and away from the door. And then a large comfortable chair where the sofa is now, perpendicular to the sofa (current location of love seat). I actually think you have a very good start with some nice, attractive pieces. You just need to edit some things and add others. Could you take a full-on photo of the tv and tv stand? I'm wondering if you could get a piece that could do double duty, with the tv and also as a sort of entry console, where it can hold some of the things you need on your way in or out the door. That would take care of your #8. 1. Couch pillows: look at Etsy. What colors do you like? I would also find a throw, for over the back of the sofa, to add some more texture, pattern, and color to the room. 2. Rug(s): Do you have any rug stores near you that will let you try out rugs and return them if they don't work in the space? Failing that, try a place like ecarpetgallery which offers free returns. 3. Wood coffee table: I would wait to see what you get for the tv/entryway piece so you know that the two pieces will co-ordinate. 4. Wall decorations: do you have any favorite pictures or posters? Or photographs or paintings you or friends or family have done? 5. Plants and pots: If you're near an Ikea, they have some inexpensive and hardy choices, and also pots to put them in. 6. Possibly new lamp shades?: I'm not a fan of that profile, but I understand that's what the lamps came with and they came as a set. If you have a TJ Maxx or Home Goods or even Bed Bath Beyond (get one of those 20 percent off coupons) near you, they often have decent inexpensive lamp shades. 7. Coat rack or pegs to put jackets/umbrella by the door: I would find a coat stand or hooks -- again, what's your style? Is it it more antiques, Pottery Barn, West Elm, mid century modern? -- and place it in the corner to the right of the window. I hate to suggest actual pieces because you should get things that reflect you and your taste, and I don't know you or your taste : ) . What stores do you like? Do you have any inspiration pictures? Some inexpensive stores with things for the home include Zara Home, H&M, Ikea, West Elm, and any independent, antique, and vintage stores you may have near you....See MoreNeed help with wall decor in living room.
Comments (8)You do need something larger...about 75% of the sofa's length could be nice. Also, you have that hung too high. Don't go more than 6-8 inches above the sofa. Adding a bit of color would be nice IMO. Lots of choices with what you have now....See MoreHelp! I need help decorating my living room
Comments (44)Sounds like you and hubby aren’t on the same page. Buying a table, without ability to return is red flag to me. He bought that rug too without your involvement. The rug is wrong size and style. No photo of the table. But better sit down and talk about this and reach some compromises otherwise, these situations can fester and get ugly over time....See MoreUpdated: "Help me decorate my living room - Desperate help needed!"
Comments (1)I see a few things that aren’t horrible, by any means, but could be changed. Mirror and sideboard, for instance, as mirror is too large for the sideboard and it overwhelms the room, reflecting the t v. Try the art over the sideboard and add a floor lamp where the plant is, as it will do double duty for the sofa and the art. Have you ever thought about adding a floor to ceiling strip of trim to separate the dining area from the living area and painting that wall a color? Something like this with a couple of white shelves on that wall?...See Morehappyde10
