Entryway flooring?

Help please!! Our home is being built and there is supposed to be tile in the entryway and kitchen. Hardwood will be dark in the rest of the home...but I love a seamless look. Any suggestions on flooring? I kind of cringe at the thought of a block/platform of light coloured tiles amongst dark HW. I should also add, that ill hv a 2nd kitchen where i do plan on having tiles. My concern is should i go with a continued hardwood in the main kitchen and entryway or should i do a dark tile to jeep with ‘seamlessness’ of color?

Usually go with hardwood throughout. It depends on the house & layout.

Heres the floorplan of the main. Spice kitchen is in the pantry where we’ve taken the tub out from the adjacent bathroom.

With black and white tiles you don't have to use black or white grout, you can choose a dark gray that will have less issues with dirt and staining. Also, depending on the style of your home, you could consider some natural stone. I don't have a picture, but I used Ostrich Gray Slate/Quartzite in my entry and I love it. It's a natural stone with a lot of pattern in gray/charcoal/black and it's honed smooth. The dark gray grout never looks dirty. (I have the same tile and grout in my mud room/laundry room too.)

the tile and the wood can be the same. if that wood is solid, it might be thicker than the tile. In any case, total demo of the tile and scraping every last bit of thinset will need to be done to lay wood. if it needs to be raised, then an overlay can be poured, or a thicker subfloor can be screwed down. not a big deal. question is, can you match that wood? is the current floor red oak, solid? engineered? can you match it? if so, do that. if not, pick a porcelain tile that you would like to carry into your kitchen. a natural black slate or a 24x24 porcelain tile if you want to do a large hex, this would be a way to get rid of that horrible transition piece,,,or just use a metal edging piece to span the change.

I would look for a tile that is as near to the color of the floor as possible. I wouldn't do wood plank tiles, but maybe something like this, if you can find something close to the floor color: Or maybe a darker (than what you have now) non-wood look tile to coordinate better with the wood:You could also do a lighter border/trim to set it apart:

I would not put tile in the kitchen or foyer and have seams in the middle of spaces.

The mud room & bathroom are OK, there is a doorway for the transition seam in floor material.

Wanted to add: I would not remove the tub or shower from the bathroom and make it a powder room. Keep a 1st floor BR/BA setup for peace of mind, emergency & for resale. The way it is shown now works well for that.

Thank you! We’ve already made the second kitchen. That need kind of outweighed the main floor shower. The flex room will be setup as an office too. Plus, every bedroom on the upper floor has an ensuite and we’ve increased the basement to have extra windows, plumbing and 9’ ceilings. So marketability should still be okay.

Do you live in an area that gets snow? What is your family's main/daily entry point to the home - via the garage/mudroom or the front door? We get snow and in our previous home had h/w in our entryway - our main point of entry - and it was a nightmare to keep clean during the winter months (slush & salt) even with a large rubber-backed carpet. When we reno'd we tiled the entry & had h/w everywhere else (including kitchen) for visual continuity. If it were me, I'd keep tile in the entryway and match it to the tile in your mudroom & the 2 rooms off it - h/w everywhere else. Given the location of the entryway closet (assuming you can't move it down closer to the entryway), I'd finish the tile on an angle from the top edge of closet down to lower dining room wall so the entire tiled area reads as your entryway and no risk to flooring in front of your hall closet.

Ugh! Yes! We get snow and it goes down to -40 here in the winter. Our main entry would be the mudroom. Mind you, in case of large gatherings it would be the main entrance for guests. 🤦🏽‍♀️
