Misturak went beyond a simple coat of paint. With the client's full approval, she implemented her vision of an abstract cityscape-themed architectural wall installation. "I wanted to imply a city skyline, but with a few random horizontal pieces so it wasn't such a literal interpretation," she says. The wood tones add the necessary warmth without introducing extreme colors.
With the help of
Adam Lehman of Greendarner Woodworks, the walnut panels were built as boxes and secured to studs through the drywall. The boxes were designed to have different depths and stains, and lighting was added to create additional visual interest.
The wall comes alive at night, when the lights are softly dimmed and the rich walnut glows. "My goal was to have the wall be more of a work of art than a simple wall treatment," Misturak says. "It's definitely one of my favorite installations to date."
