Help with Entryway with stairs Flooring ideas
Comments (1)Yes....three flooring types inside of 2 feet is two too many. The issue becomes which floor to keep and which two to get rid of. Right now you have the maximum amount of flooring options in a single space = 2. If you add a 3rd you will be kicking yourself in 1-2 years. It looks like tile is the best option for your situation so why not go with tile? I'm guessing the answer is, "Because there is a lot of tile in the home and I want to keep this a small project." If you want to replace the carpet on the stairs and the sitting room, you are probably better off replacing with more carpet. This will allow for a refresh on a small scale. You will do this knowing full well that a massive flooring update will be coming in the next 5-7 years. It will give you time to save up for all new flooring....See Moreredoing entryway...need help choosing floor, paint, and stain colors
Comments (1)Are you in an area where snow might be tracked in? If so, consider luxury vinyl plank flooring stead of laminate. Laminate will warp and buckle if drips aren’t wiped up quickly....See MoreNeed help with outdoor entry floor.
Comments (4)Are yo doing tile again for the roof? IMO wait until the roof is done before choosing anything for the entry. You nave to be careful that what you choose works with the roof and the brick. BTW congrats on the new entry.Could you also take a picture from further back to show the whole front of the house....See MoreMarble floor for entry and powder room? Help.
Comments (3)Marble is marble (so it does what it does because of it's chemical components) but it is still stone. Rolling a trolley over it won't do anything but make noise. Marble is used as flooring all over the world. The ENTIRE VATICAN is covered in marble known as 'travertine'. I've seen it. Walked on it. So have MILLIONS of people before me and MILLIONS of people after me. If marble is good enough for the Queen, the Pope and for Soccer/Football stadiums around the world, it will probably make it through as a floor in a residential area. That's the good news. The bad news is it is still marble. I love marble. Love the feel of it. The look of it. I even like the smell of it when it is sitting on a pallet waiting to be installed! I must tell you right now, I am NOT a perfectionist. I am the laziest 'house keeper' in the world. My motto is, "If I can't see it, it can't bother me." My personality type (mixed Type A-B....I'm "A" at work and with safety, etc; I'm a "B" when in my own home...keeps me sane) goes VERY WELL with marble. If it stains, I don't care. If it etches...I don't care. If URINE etches it...I care...only because I can 1. See it, and 2. Smell it, and 3. Recognize the health hazard as 'needs to be dealt with' right now. Other than that, I'm so relaxed about flooring I'm just about comatose. Sweeping? Why? It's just coming back tomorrow. Mopping? Why? There's no mud. Polishing? Why? It will just dull down again. Sealing I can get into. It has a physical purpose. It allows marble to look and work better as a material. I also know I will be RESPONSIBLE for the sealing...every once and a while. I know that. I'll notice it 'later' and then pick up my products and go 'do it' when I feel like doing it (depends on what the European Soccer broadcast is for the weekend...or Formula 1...Rugby...Aussie Rules, etc). That's me. You need to ask yourself are you relaxed enough to LOVE the VERY FIRST stain that changes your marble. If you answered with a deep sucking in of breath and a feeling you were going to be sick (just at the THOUGHT of something staining your marble) then you probably need to work with porcelain....See MoreUser
