red oak dark stain advice
Comments (7)Thanks for sharing! Your floor looks beautiful! I think I like dark walnut on our sample. I’m just not a fan of some of the pictures I have seen of the same stain on similar wood. Just afraid of what it may end up looking like if we use it on the entire floor....See MoreHas anyone tried mixing in weathered oak to cool down red oak?
Comments (14)Neutral = gold(ish). Golden oak = yellow. Both of those colours are SUPER WARM. If you want COOL you need to get RID of yellow, orange and red. duraseal-quick-coat-stain-chart.jpg (1510×1762) (netdna-ssl.com) Have a look at the chart. Can you see green in any colours? Think 'celery' rather than emerald. Each colour has been applied to Red and White Oak (they sit side-by-each). Chestnut has green in it. Provincial also has some green but it turns warm on Red Oak (snick more gold tones). Coffee Brown Dark Walnut Antique Brown These all have green in them. Be VERY careful with Jacobean if you are looking for a 'soft' brown. Jacobean is FANTASTIC at turning the mineral streaks (the grain) DARK BROWN/Black. If you want a soft brown, the Jacobean is probably not what you want....See MoreSpecial Walnut versus Provincial on Red Oak Floors?
Comments (9)You need to put both samples on your floor for review. Looking at photos on the internet or getting opinions from anyone else is far less effective than seeing the actual samples on your floor....See MoreRed oak floor stain advice: Dark walnut /white?
Comments (1)You've got 6 samples at least in your Other Thread. I would suggest making it seven....See MoreLiz H
