Help on selecting a kitchen electric range?
Comments (1)In our last house we had a GE Profile ceramic-top range with the grayish, speckled top. (I would go for that every time over black glass.) Nice big oven (no convection, but it was self-clean), and never a problem with it in the 8 years we had it. As far as I know the current owners are still enjoying it. The GE had some touch panel controls, but mostly knobs, which I trusted more after having a JennAir with an all electronic panel that kept burning out due to the placement of the oven vent....See MoreCan You Guys Help Me Select a Range?
Comments (19)Whatever you do, please go LOOK at the Kenmore induction range. DH and I went to look at it a couple weeks ago. Personally, i was underwhelmed -- but that could just have been me. The oven shelves felt flimsy. They felt much less sturdy than my 20 year old Kenmore that wasn't top of the line then! The burner layout to me is bad. The large induction units are both in the front which means if you have 4 items going, you're going to be reaching over the large pots in the front to get to the smaller items in the back. The warming drawer wasn't much IMO either. It was really more like a pot/pan storage drawer with a heating element -- no insulation at all. We've really wanted induction but have to do a below counter oven. I had high hopes for the Sears unit but knocked it off my list after looking. Perhaps it will do more for you...just don't buy it based on reviews. Oh...and I had to argue with the salesman that they even HAD a slide in. He insisted they didn't. I had to go online there in the store and show it to him....See MoreHelp with Range Hood Selection
Comments (3)As a general rule of thumb, not iron clad building code, you want 1 cfm per 100 btu. In your case I would look at something in the 600-700 cfm range. Some local building codes require something called make-up air(MUA) past a certain limit of CFM.It requires you bring in fresh air from the outside to balance the air being exhasted. If that is the case you may want to get something at your local limit because it can get expensive. A lot of trade people buy recommend Broan/Best by Broan. American company sells some cheap stuff made in China/Eastern Europe and some better stuff made in Italy. Broan also has a cheap MUA unit that is compatible with their hoods and meets most building code specifications that require MUA. Might be a way to get a more powerfull hood on the cheap if you have local MUA codes. A good bang for the buck hood is Kobe. Japanese company product made in Taiwan. Another good range hood comapny is Zephyr, a Korean company that makes its hoods in Korea. There are some generic Chinese made hoods with really good specifications but questionable quality. American made hoods tend to fall into either the bargain basement stuff made with Chinese parts that are not much better than the generic/Chinese brands or the Ultra Premium hand made hoods. These are very $$$....See MoreKitchen Faucet: Please Help Me Select the Right One!
Comments (9)I have a similar kitchen faucet to what you are choosing. Maybe not as functional, but I just liked the look of the two levers for hot & cold. I have the single hole, single lever in this style at the prep sink & a completely different single hole, single lever with the sprayer within the faucet in my laundry room. No regrets on my main kitchen faucet choice. As far as reach, I'll have to look at the specs for this faucet & will edit this post to include that info....See Morerj vost
