How long have you had it and how was it cared for?

I've had it for about a month now. And before I got it I'm not sure on the care it was purchased from home depot. But since I've had it I've made sure it has had water and used bioadvanced tree and shrub protect and feed 12 month

Where are you located Matthew? A week or so ago we had a couple nights below freezing. I actually had in ground plants get some damage.

When you made sure it had water did you make sure the root ball got thoroughly soaked?

That is what freeze damage looks like as the frozen leaves are discarded. And yes you can have two side by side trees and one gets zapped and the other doesn't. New leaves are most susceptible to freeze damage when they are in the active expansion phase of new growth.

Is there anything to do for freeze damage or do I just leave it and hope for the best?

Did it indeed freeze down there last week? Nothing you can do but let it grow back out. It should be fine.

The google machine says the last big freeze in Central Alabama was Easter weekend. There was another cold snap and freeze 4/22, but it may not have reached you.

does you soil drain .. is it clay??

It will be later on when I cab get a full picture. But the soil is a mix of shrub and tree soil and clay

what is you base soil .. if you dig a hole in your clay .... does it drain??

next time.. dont amend a planting hole.. and if your soil doesnt drain well.. plant high ... i like this primer

in my MI.. spring frost and freeze is the usual ... established trees easily recover .. even if completely denuded.. they can releaf ..

yours is not an established tree due to planting.. so all we can do.. is make sure you did that right ... and perfect future care .. and then hope it can overcome whatever is going on ...
