placement of wall supply elbows for handheld shower on slide bar?
Comments (2)wi-sailorgirl, thanks, that placement you have there is more standard and what I think it should be. Its nice how it lines up with the bottom of the slide bar. We aren't tiled up yet but backerboard is on and the nipple for the wall connection elbow is way low. Like below where your diverter trim is, below your glass ovals even. I wasn't going to mount the slide bar too high but wont be able to line the bottom of it up that low as they are now. Probably going to be too much trouble to break backerboard out and have plumber adding copper plumbing to raise up the location of the wall supply elbow. Our hose just isn't going to hang nicely like that with a loop and to the side. The hose is just going to have to come straight down and into the already low placed wall supply connection. At which point there will be no reason to mount the slide bar off to one side either. Just directly above the wall supply elbow so hose will just go straight down. Not going to look great and will have to mount the slide bar low enough so that you can still raise the slide bar to the highest point and have enough hose, short of using a longer hose which both of mine are not. oh well, if I really care, now is the time to do it before its really too late but I'm afraid it already kind of is....See MoreNew shower-using only handheld shower on slide bar
Comments (8)Just a word of warning on Moen slider bar fixtures...their chrome fixtures the pieces that hold the bar in place are plastic. I made the huge mistake in building of picking out a book and not putting my eyes and hands on the actual fixtures. Not until they were installed and we were moving in (we built from 1300 miles away) that we discovered they were plastic. There was really nothing we could do at that point without changing all the other fixtures in that bathroom, so we sucked it up and lived with it. That is until about two weeks ago in one of the showers the plastic on the bottom failed and the bar fell out of the sleeve! I called Moen and even though it's been over 2 years since purchase they sent a complete replacement. They have completely redesigned the shower bar and while the pieces are still plastic the design is much better and much more sturdy. They have great customer service, their phone system is great. If a CS rep is unavailable you record your number and they give you a time frame in which they will call you back. It's so much better than being on hold forever. Probably way more info than you wanted, but wanted you to be aware....See Morehandheld shower head on bar--why do you like it?
Comments (12)Are there any of these units that are suitable for installation in a standard (i.e. small) tub/shower alcover (60x32) that aren't so expensive that I have to consider auctioning off my grandbaby to get one?!? I must be looking in the wrong places, because the ones I've seen so far (online, haven't made it to the store yet) all cost close to or in some cases substatially more than the Kohler soaking tub we're getting - several were 2-3 times the cost of the tub, which we're getting for around $430! In case it matters, all I want is to have a permanent rain shower head plus a separate hand-held, and be able to choose between them (having both run at once is nice but not necessary) - it doesn't need to be on an adjustable-height bar, I don't need to control both separately, I don't need to sense and control temperature or flow in case someone flushes a toilet elsewhere in the house, etc. We're also planning a full remodel, so I can definitely get one that requires you to plumb for it - it doesn't have to hook up to just the existing shower head. Thanks for any links, models, online resources or whatever you can guide me to!...See MoreWhat is a good length for a handheld shower slide bar?
Comments (3)We have a Hansgrohe bar in each of our kids' bathrooms. One is in a shower /bathtub combo and one is in a shower. We don't have a wall mount shower head in either. Both wall bars are about 25" long and are mounted with the bottom about 52" off of the floor. Works fine for 6 year old daughter and 5'11" tall husband. Can't say if it is "best", but it is fine for us....See Morebadgergal
