Help! One story ranch exterior design dilemma.
Comments (21)rustic relating to the countryside; rural. made in a plain and simple fashion. If you don't like cedar shingles that turn gray with age then you shouldn't list "rustic" a goal. Painted clapboards and thin stone skirts aren't rustic. Nothing could look more rustic than cedar shakes that are hand split and have a very thick bottom edge and a stone foundation should stop at the bottom of the floor framing like a foundation normally does. What you have drawn looks decidedly suburban and developer-ish. The best finish for shakes is to have them factory dipped in a stain of any color you like but I wouldn't choose one as dark as the windows nor mix them with other claddings....See MoreExterior Paint Dilemma...Help!
Comments (6)All I see is an over done mcmansion and I have no clue what a Santa Barbara look is. Post pics of what you want then maybe we can help. Okay so I looked at theis style and your house is going to need a lot of work I would not paint the stone I would have it removed or covered and if at all possible that whole thing at the front with the columns and jug and round window should be removed. This is one pic I found so maybe not quite what you are thinking, BTW is this for you or a client ?...See MoreHome Exterior Color Dilemma
Comments (3)If you commit to the stone/brick cladding first, then you can pull lighter/darker, more colourful/more neutral versions from the same Hue Family neighbourhood. The exterior has a far better chance of looking more cohesive - if they are considered in tandem, rather than one at a time. You can find near neutral colours from every Hue Family. They can be light/mid/dark in value. Does your homeowners association produce a guideline for colours, perhaps including LRV ? If so, that would be helpful....See MoreExterior paint dilemma, need your Help!
Comments (15)Your house photo is very flattering to your brick, maybe you should add another photo showing a closeup. I do like Houssaon's change of a deeper trim color, it really helps soften everything. A charcoal roof would look great too with his choice. This is a bit messy, I did it on the Sherwin Williams Visualizer. I have added some other photos from Houzz, I entered a search for painted brick exterior and chose the traditional tab. To help yourself, I would avoid looking at other styles of homes, work with the style you have, especially if the major components are not changing. I don't think color blocking would suit your home. My son is investigating brick stain, his brick is head shaking awful. He's looking at brick stains, mineral paints specifically for brick so it can continue to breathe, and Romabio. We're in Canada, so some choices are limited. The last thing you want to do is stop your masonry from breathing, you could consult a mason for an opinion too....See Moreflopsycat1
