Need Input on Spinal Stenosis

chisue

I think I must DO something about my lumbar stenosis. I'd like to remain ambulatory a little longer. I don't want to take additional amounts of Tylenol-4 (w/codeine), and it's not all that helpful anyway. I'm using a lydocaine pain patch almost every night.

Two years ago I had a steroid injection. That had me up 'floor walking' for 11 nights. I couldn't tell if the pain was from the spine or where the orthopedic surgeon also decided to break up a 'muscle knot' -- you know, as long as he was *in there* and everything! (I don't read much that encourages these injections now anyway.)

I see ads for PILD, a subcutaneous procedure that sort of 'wedges' open the space where the nerves are being compressed. It's also out patient. At 80, and with multiple myeloma, I'm leary of more drastic surgery, if they'd even consider doing it.

Anyone have this problem? Anyone found relief?
