Comments (3)Georgia has several patches in the state. We have just started our patch in Atlanta and had our first meeting this month. Fortunately, we were lucky enough to have the Secretary of The Georgia Gourd Society live close by and she is the one that did just about everything to get our patch going. At our first meeting she brought her supply of Gilders Paste, passed it out and each of us used whatever color we need. We took a small gourd to the patch meeting and each of us drew whatever we wanted to use the paste on and Pat taught us how to use the paste. Pat put a lot of work into the patch and got the use of a room in the museum to have our first meeting. She passed out a small brochure asking us to fill out our names and address and to check off a list on the back of things we wanted to learn - coiling, carving, chipping, etc. With this information she will be able to get teachers to teach. Our president is a great gourd artist. He has several things in the High Museum (I think that the right museum)in Washington, DC. Your first thing to do is to get someone who is dedicated enough to do all of the things that Pat has done....See MoreSt. Augustine grass brown patches, can anyone diagnose?
Comments (13)Randy, I think Richard was saying just for the lawn spray service :) I used to pay $60 every other month but I gave that up the past couple of years and started doing it myself. I weed/feed once a year with a broadcast spreader, and spray during the summer months for fleas / etc every 6 weeks or so (maybe 3 times) - end of hose sprayer. Easy as can be :) I had a spot like that on my grass, I thought it might be grubs but decided to check my sprinkler heads for coverage first. Lo and behold...area was completely missed. Adjusted heads and now (doubly so with the rain) it's growing back nicely. The only other possibly I can offer would be...do you have a dog? My dogs favorite wee wee spot looks like that too :)...See MoreWhat to use to patch plaster (?) on a chimney?
Comments (4)Take care of the brick spalling first. Brick spalls are caused by water not being able to evaporate through the mortar and having to come through the brick, loosening the outer layer, making it spall off. Your chimney may have been repointed with mortar too hard for your brick.Your original mortar probably was made from lime, sand and water. Most mortar today is made with Portland cement, something not used in the 1870's. At the turn of the century when it came into use, the mixtures of Portland cement, sand and water varied all over the place, as we learned how to work with it. Portland cement is much harder than 1870's bricks, but compatible with modern bricks. Anyone who was not very serous about historic restoration probably would not have thought about this before the 1990's. If this is the problem the only solution is to remove the mortar added and repoint with mortar compatible with your bricks. You can probably do quite a lot of research about this, and then find a mason who knows what you are talking about. In any case, your chimney needs to be safe, with no holes leaking fumes into your house. Please fix it....See MoreMedicare & Lidocaine Patches
Comments (7)Been several years since I used Canadian - looks like things have changed. I've no doubt whatsoever the guvmnt is trying to close a loophole or workaround allowing many to afford the meds. Or at least keep the costs down. Can't imagine what lobby would promote that. As for WOT I can't speak to that having never used it. Could there be Guvmnt influence on this in that too? Well I spelled out what we got so there'd be no confusion. I vaigly recall studying what to get and there may have been alternatives. Maybe had input from medical types in family. I used 2 or 3 with absolutely NO problem of any sort. In fact they seemed to put out extra effort to help with and check on the orders. Orders were not filled w/o a valid prescription. The Triocaine was not a prescription item in Canada and I think it was just unavailable to me otherwise. It was the difference between my SW being in a chair and up n around. One example is Aricept. In Zees Coontree I paid $75/qtr for 3 qtrs then $575 for the 4th qtr total $800 . From Canada it was about $130/qtr for 4 qtrs is $520. Rather significant wouldn't you say? When it went generic U.S.A. ($24/yr) I returned home. :-) Anyway I hope my suggestion at least opened a door to an alternative or type of alternative. 4...See Moreschoolhouse_gw
