Glass accent tile in bathroom - Y/N & design help, please
Comments (12)Yes, the mosaic is bordered by a thin limestone pencil tile. The white tile is thinner than the mosaic, so the pencil tile makes a nice transition between the two. This is not our tile, but it's the picture that inspired what we did with the pencil tile. Laying the tile out on the livingroom floor, just a single tile width, really helped to visualize what pattern we liked. I was going to do a full sheet of masaic (12") as the stripe, but when I laid it out it looked like too much mosaic. We played with the widths of the mosaic by cutting one sheet into 3" rows and adding or taking away sections to make different width strips. Doing this, coupled with taking the width of the cuts neccessary for the white tile into consideration really helped to visualize the look....See Moreis a glass surround worth it in this first floor bathroom?
Comments (5)Thank you for your input! I just asked our GC about it, and he said that we can't do it since the plumbing won't work out. If we put the shower head across from the door, it will be very hard to turn the shower on. We can't put it on the outside wall, so we are limited to the wall next to the toilet. He suggested keeping it as is and using a glass door instead of a curtain for a more "finished" look. Does this seem to make sense? Thank you again! I did not realize our idea would not be feasible. :-( Sara...See MoreWood flooring in bathroom - experience?
Comments (23)this is very timely, since we just discovered a toilet seal leak...we have hardwoods in the baths knowing the risk, however the toilet had never leaking in the years we have been here, so murphy's law rears it's head again... that said, i would still use the hardwood as it just 'works' for our home, which is a smaller condo with layout issues and it helps tremendously with 'flow' what we did do however was use a piece of hardward as a door unraised 'threshold' ..we did this in the case of a flooring water related disaster so that we could cleanly remove and replace the flooring with either more hardwood or tile should we change our minds....we purchased quite a bit of extra hardwood because we did the entire level (kitchen included) and we wanted to make sure we could have replacement boards if needed...the leak hasn't done any major damage, we have turned the water off to the toilet and will be reseating it...i may get by without any noticeable damage, we're going to wait about a week to see how the wood responds to being wet... good luck!...See MoreCross post to bathrooms....glass mosaic floor anyone?
Comments (3)It should be a no shoe environment, as heels or bits of gravel caught in the soles can chip the glass and make sharp edges. There are specialty glass tiles that have a textured surface that are designed for a bath area, because glass is slippery. If you use the small 3/4" size, that may not be necessary, but you also need to make sure that you use a sanded grout for traction. That can scratch the surface of the glass slightly, and that can hold a bit more dirt than installations with unsanded grout. If you have family members who will be using the bath who are mobility challenged, you may want to be sure that you only use it in some type of decorative "stripes" and combine it with a regular tile with good traction, plus prep the walls to install grab bars now or later....See Morenewenglandsara2
