symmetry on either side of range?
Comments (1)This is antiques forum, try "home decorating forum" or better yet "kitchen forum" if it's a very old house try the "old house forum" as kitchens sometimes present special problems in very old houses! Good Luck!...See MorePlease help w design & symmetry on 144" sink/range wall
Comments (17)" Don't do any door wider than 15 inches because of the 39-42 in height you want" herbflavor and bnfenton-I keep puzzling about the 33" cabinets as being over the 15" door width herbflavor discouraged. I returned to the very nice KD I've been working with on semi-custom face frame cabs- and we changed to the proposed upper cab layout: (L)24", 33", 33", 36" range hood, 15" cab (R). While the KD didn't think the 33" upper over the 30" sink base was a great idea, I don't mind as it flanks the sink by 1.5" on each side. But, 33" mean 16.5" doors, right? I've never even heard of that. Or more likely it is 16" and reveal. That's above the "no more than 15" wide" door suggestion to avoid problems with 39" or 42" height (which he feels pose no problem as they turn on the door hinge). I do recall reading about trim and tall uppers in the past. Is there something I'm not understanding that anyone might further clarify? Thank you very much. Comments (21)Frankly, we love love love the 12" cabinets to the right of our range. It's where our much used spices go plus all of the utensils which are needed at the range. From Kitchen Album Symmetry would have killed functionality in my tiny kitchen. That's not what people see when the walk in: >Our Designer's shots From Kitchen Album From Kitchen Album Our back wall is only 9' long before you hit the extension into our laundry room space. We have a 21" 2 drawer cabinet to the left for our pots & pans. The top pullout is a thick chopping board. From Kitchen Album Functionality is beautiful. No one ever walks into my kitchen & calls it "lobsided" and runs away screaming claiming their eyeballs are bleeding. Check out the Finished Kitchens Blog and count the kitchens which couldn't have symmetry. There's only two of us in our household - we love the 40" of the Lacanche. Love the two ovens. Can't imagine a smaller cook surface. Our kitchen is 9' wide by 11' long. It's open to both the front door (no foyer) and the living room. As people move around our space, they have different views. Symmetry - straight on - is based on the perception created by an angle. People walk around in space. They don't stand in one spot looking straight at it. Also, my husband is "Mr. Balance" and he never once brought up the asymmetrical nature of our kitchen. Our range is centered on the back wall, but the cabinets to either side aren't the same size. Our sink is not centered on the sink wall, or I would have lost my 5' run of uninterrupted countertop for baking. Our frig is not centered on the frig wall. It's placed to hide the appliances. -a...See MoreWindows are not symmetrical!
Comments (2)Nice house, not a mess at all. Remove all the shutters. They don't suit the style of the house and as you have already realized, they look odd since you can't add them symmetrically to all the windows. Don't add window boxes. Add landscaping, including a small tree right about where you have the garbage bin, to cover the large expanse of brick wall. Add shrubs that will go up to the bottom of the windows, at maturity. If you want something quicker, tall grasses will fill in the brick below the windows. A local nursery can develop a plan for you if you bring them detailed pictures and measurements. This is a great time of year to do it....See Morebiondanonima (Zone 7a Hudson Valley)
