Thanks Sea, you are right the Parson is about 4" taller than the table, i believe the table is 30" and the parsons are 34". I just always thought the chairs at the end of the tables were supposed to be taller, but the ikea option at that price would be very attractive. My girlfriend is flipping out regarding mixing the wood legs with chrome, she thinks it doesnt work, but then again shes not a designer either lol. I guess in terms of making the table look more substantial in the room, it should look more substantial when that chandelier is over it, and when I add a buffet table in the room. So I guess it really isnt an issue. I may check out those ikea chairs soon

its your dining table's fault. standard height is about 30", and yes you sink in some upholstered chairs depending how they are constructed. even though a 'normal' difference is 12" (which would mean a 19" chair for your table), if your bum (and therefore spine) are sinking below the wood frame you are getting less than the measured height. i'd rethink the felt sliders on the table, or else find straight chairs that can be custom made an inch taller. it doesnt matter what the ruler says... you know if you have that sinking feeling..... (we went through this.... fortunately we bought our chairs and table from the same store and werent able to try the sample chairs with our table. turned out the table was higher than all of their other tables. they remade the custom chairs an inch taller and i've been able to eat at the table without feeling like i'm 9.)

Don't buy expensive chairs right now. Down the line, your taste may change and the "forever" chairs you buy today, may not work with the "forever" table in the future. Standing alone, a lot of tables look like desks. You can change up that look with less expensive chairs now, that are still sturdy. How many people will be eating at the table on a regular basis? Are you removing the other window coverings because I think they look nice and relate well to the living room. One suggestion would be to have bench seating under your crosses (please keep them) with a narrow long rectangular table and 2 to 3 chairs across from the bench. It would tuck it closer to the wall so you have walking space. You could then put china cabinets or bookcases on either side of the door. Another suggestion would be to set up a table that goes from a console to a table to sit 8-10 peopls. You could set it up as a desk for everyday. It's a hard room because of the doorways.
