I just wanted to add that I absolutely love your furniture. They look like family antiques and are very unique. I do like the pop of red pillows you added. But with the risk of everyone coming down on me I really don't like that rug in that beautiful room. The colors are fine it just looks like it is a contemporary type of rug. Maybe I am wrong bc I can't see the pattern that well but it looks like squares. Everything else looks great!

Thank you! Now... just what era IS the chair?! My son looked at it and said it reminded him of something from Star Trek or the Jetsons! Maybe that's why I liked it - I always loved those shows. Chairs seem to be my achilles heel at this point. I'm still not sure about the other chair in the photo, either. I want a pair to sit side by side there - but this is what I already had so I put it there just to see how that style would look. Seems to do ok, but there just seem to be so many other styles out there (slipper style, chinese chippendale, regency, etc.?) that might look as good or better. I admit to just getting overwhelmed sometimes with all the decisions! What chairs, what drapes, what rug, what furniture...! Oh - and what size and scale, too! Obviously it's an art to be have a vision and make it all come together. Which is why I'm sure good interior decorators are worth their weight in gold - unfortunately,however, I don't have much of that precious commodity laying about! So, I'm hoping you more experienced members here will be willing to nudge me along as I continue on with this decorating endeavor!

Mag, my rooms painted plum? I could never be that daring... Our house is surrounded by huge oaks, so in the summertime the house is much darker than the winter. Although I love the summer, as we love to be in our backyard, I like the house better in the winter with the lower sun and the leaves off the trees and the sun streaming in. I think dark walls would be too depressing for me. A few years back we painted our foyer a darker color -- a blue-ish color. We sat in the living room and said, "Isn't it beautiful, so lively and crisp!" The next night we sat in the living room again and I turned to Cliff and said, "do you hate it as much as I do!?!" ... "Yup," was his answer. That weekend we painted it back to the Laura Ashley gold! Stargirl, art is such a personal choice. My dear father-in-law and my Father were both painters, (just a hobby) so I have dozens of my FIL oils and two of my fathers. My bedroom is full of the paintings, as well as our guest rooms, dining room, and den...The two over the TV mantle, he painted for me in the 1980's and the one over the dvd cabinet, he painted in 1940. I call it 'the cottage' and it's my favorite of all, that is why it is hung where it is across from the sofa in the den, where I can look at it every day. The little carpenter I bought for my Cliff cause he likes to make cabinets and furniture. I placed it where it is cause he looks like he's walking home to the cottage. :) Take your time looking for your artwork, also some nice original photos, matted and framed make for some nice original artwork. I love folk art and also love all the colorful artwork on Aunt Jen's walls as well... I have also seen some lovely children's drawings matted and framed that look wonderful as well..I guess what I mean is, try and find things you love or have some special meaning to you. Joann

Congradulations on finishing a project. That is a huge accomplishment. This is my honest feedback... Alot of this has to do with one's taste, obviously. I am sure the end product is a combination of you and your client.... For me, there are too many competing elements in the design. So the room does not come off as sophisticated but rather busy and trying too hard. There are so many things that are screaming "pay attention to me" that one does not know where to rest ones eyes and take in the visual beauty of any one thing. I would have used more restraint and scaled back much of what is there.... I would have only picked one or two things to showcare; glasstop, curved sink, stainless steel legs, aluminum glass door fronts, tile, granite, lights, what have you but so much all in the same room. Some ideas that pop into me: if you wanted to showcase the glass and its shape, I would have used much subtler counter top by using muted color/material. Then this could have been balanced by shimmering glasstiles on the other wall. The SS legs of the counter tops fight with the aluminum rails of the door of the lower cabs.... So one does not see the elegant legs. Not sure if my opinion is worth much but I am not saying these things to hurt your feeling.... I am just giving you my personal honest feedback which you requested. I wish you the best. I hope you continue to grow as a designer.
