Comments (5)Your best bet is to light a fire under the architect and try to stay on track. Switching architects seems justified but everyone would probably lose something in the transition. Just tell her that you like her work but you feel she is not fully committed to the project, or at least she has put other projects ahead of yours. That should get her attention because she will sense that you are thinking of firing her without any threats being made (don't threaten anything you aren't really ready to do). As far as the drawings are concerned, she can't keep you from using the prints to build one project if the termination was justified (which it seems to be). The real difficulty is getting original, reproducible prints or CAD files that another architect could use without the additional expense of starting over. You need her permission for that because an architect's original drawings are instruments of service rather than something you buy. That's been the law as long as I have been in the profession so it would be a waste of time to argue whether it is fair or not. There would be no gain to anyone from filing a complaint with the state registration board, even if she had violated the registration laws, which it appears she has not. The thing I believe most homeowners fail to understand about project management is that emotional responses to difficulties usually come back to hurt you more than anyone else. It is important to put the project ahead of personal feelings. The fact that you were concerned over a weekend is understandable but irrelevant. If it is best to keep the architect, figure out how to do that and then roll on without hard feelings. If it is best to switch start looking for the new one and ask the original architect to give you her final invoice and send her a termination letter. (Don't hire a new architect until you have done this) When I get into a difficult situation with a contractor I first carefully define the problem as dispassionately as possible, then I ask the contractor to make a recommendation to resolve the problem. In any negotiation you want the other person to make the first concession. Stay cool and force the other person to "participate" in the solution. Your goal is to move the project forward, not punish the guilty....See MorePlease Take a Look...Finally my kitchen plans...
Comments (15)Looks nice. I have the same question/concern as kaismom. We have a 39" wide aisle between island and DW. When the door is open, there is only 14" between open door and counter edge and 15 1/4" between open door and cabinet side (no decorative end panel). What type of fridge are you choosing? SxS or bottom freezer? CD (counter depth) or SD (standard depth)? We have a CD, bottom freezer fridge. The freezer drawer extends 18" out (not including handle). If you're choosing a SD, bottom freezer fridge, your freezer drawer will extend farther than that. It would be nice if you could have both DW and freezer drawer or fridge door open at the same time without interference so definitely check these measurements. Does the island include a seating overhang? If it's only 36" wide and you're planning on 1.5" counter overhang, you only have a 10.5" seating overhang. NKBA recommends 15" for 36" high counters and 12" for 42" high counters. If you're tall, you won't want to skimp here. Even if you're not, you may not want to go with less than the recommended minimum. It won't be as comfortable to sit at the counter if the overhang is on the shallow side. Now if you've lived with shallow seating overhangs and are fine with it, then never mind. ;-) Where's the MW?...See MorePlease take a look at my kiss

Comments (65)We had a false start Saturday, but 3/4 done right now and super happy! So glad ABB is almost a memory. I will post a shot without grout when they leave and another in a few days with the grout. Going with mapai white still and will use the keracaulk as advised. Thank you again. Anyone who is considering this tile - we have no regrets. It would go well with greens, grays, whites, blacks, and tans. It wouldn't interfere with a busy countertop (IMHO) and has enough variation to give some interest to our essentially solid black counter and white cabinets. A small number of tiles have imperfections, but they are the ones being cut for ends and corners, so not really wasted much....See Moretinker_2006
