I think they're totally salvageable. The leaves are still green, and they've still got roots. Many moons ago, I also rooted jades in water and stuck them in MG water control soil. And in spite of doing it all wrong, they lived. Thrived, even. Who knows how. If you're new to this, you probably don't want to jump in to mixing the gritty mix so many of the gorgeous succulents you see here are growing in. I have 40+ plants, and as much as I'd like to start putting my plants in a good gravelly mix, I just use bagged soil. At the very least, go get a bag of cactus mix. If you can, buy the perlite, too, and mix it half and half. It makes a big difference. Put the cuttings in about an inch. They probably won't stand up on their own, I use the take-out chopsticks you get from the sushi joint, or a bamboo skewer, just stick it in the soil next to the cutting to help support it. Don't water for a few days, and then very lightly the first time. Depending on how fast the soil dries out where you are, water lightly about once a week (every 10 days in winter). Some people water deeply every two weeks ... I don't like the way they look when watered that way. Good luck!

The image is a bit too small to read the dimensions so these comments are based only on the general layout and my guesstimates as to sizes of rooms. Overall, I like your plan but there are some things I would definitely tweak. I count 28 exterior "corners." I thought my plan with 22 exterior corners was complex! Be aware that all those in-and-out jogs are going to make this a more expensive house to build than one of comparable size but with fewer exterior corners would be. We pay for our love of bay windows! LOL! In the kitchen, the current placement of the refrigerator means you would have to walk around the corner of the island to get from the sink to the fridge. The fridge is convenient to the breakfast nook which is nice but it's better if you don't have to dodge around your island to move between fridge, stove, oven, and sink. Also, have you thought about where the dishwasher will go? With a sink in a corner like that, you can't really put the DW right up next to it on either side or, when the DW door is open, you won't be able to stand in front of your sink. You have to move it a foot or so down the cabinet so, in this case, it would need to be on the island leg to the right of the sink. You can get help with kichen design on the kitchens forum. There are some real gurus over there who've given a lot of thought to how to make a kitchen functional as well as beautiful. Also, I would want a window in that angled wall directly across from the kitchen sink so I could look out while washing dishes rather than staring at a blank wall. I'd prefer having my pantry closer to the garage so I don't have to tote groceries so far but maybe that is not an issue for you. The pantry IS reasonably close to the kitchen which is good. You don't say how old your kids are. If they're still toddlers, you might want to consider whether you want their bedrooms to be quite so far away from the master bedroom. If they're school-age already then it's probably okay to have them at the other end of the house. Be aware however that, if your teens are inclined to slip out at night without your knowledge, that access thru the mudroom to the garage man door will make it very easy for them. There is no way you would hear them coming and going from the masterbedroom clear across the house. Chances are you probably wouldn't even hear the garage doors go up if they chose to drive. You mention putting a bedroom and large family room in the basement.... so what is going to be upstairs??? Before you settle on a Jack & Jill bathroom, do a search for theads on GW where people have discussed J&Js in detail. You might decide it would be better to swap that the bedroom and J&J and just have a shared bath that opens to the hallway. Even if you decide to stick with a J&J, that pocket door by the head of the tub simply won't work. You'll have plumbing in that wall so the door cannot go into a pocket there. Also, if you decide a J&J is the way to go, since each of the two vanity rooms appears to by 5' x 5', consider giving each bedroom its own toilet and a smaller vanity. No window in the laundry room? I'm not a fan of sliding closet doors. They come off the tracks constantly and, IMHO, just look rather cheap. Recommend you opt for regular swinging doors or pocket doors or even bifolds over the sliding closet doors. Re the window in the masterbedroom closet: Windows in closets are a bad idea since the sunlight causes clothing to fade. Plus, in this case, where are you planning to hang clothing? If you were only going to put rods across the two short ends, then you've devoted and awful lot of square footage to a closet that will only have about 10 linear feet or less of hanging space. You can get the same amount of use out of a 5' x 7' walk in closet. If you planned to hang clothing along the length of the closet, then the window is in the way (unless it will only be a high narrow window.) Actually tho, I'm not sure the closet is deep enough for you to hang clothing along the long wall. At a minimum, your closet must be wider than the width of the door plus 22 to 24 inches or the door will brush against clothing as it swings. Getting into the toilet room and shutting the door behind you is going to be a problem also as there is really no place to stand inside the bathroom while you close the door behind you. If you're like most people, you use the shower far more than the tub. But while your tub looks luxurious, your shower looks pretty dinky. I'm guessing its maybe only about 36" X 48". While that certainly large enough to shower in, it definitely isn't "luxurious." I'd look for a way to enlarge the shower - especially since you have loads of open floorspace in the masterbath. Also, since it faces toward the front, you are probably going to have to either curtain or shutter one of the windows over the spa-tub. I think that kind of defeats the purpose of a spa-tub. I'd try to move the tub to the side wall and then create a "private garden" behind a fence on that side of the house so you don't have to curtain the window. So, overall, I think the masterbath and master closet area needs to be reworked in its entirety. Just my 2 cents worth...

You have a fairly classic layout. Some might suggest swapping the fridge and hutch, but I think it's fine. A few points: 1. What's in the hutch/appliance garage? You need a place for your toaster and coffee maker, and I hope that's it, away from the prep area. Otherwise they're going to end up in the corner, the worst possible place for them. 2. Or is that the MW in there? If it is I'd think about an under counter or drawer MW in the island near the fridge instead. 3. Are you paneling the side of your fridge? I would, if it's facing the great room or dining room. A full view of a tilted-back fridge isn't so nice. 4. Do you have any other place for a water source? I know L-shaped kitchens with islands are supposed to be super efficient. However, I find guests have a tendency to nestle in the only corner, delusionally believing they are "out of the way." And people also run for water right behind the cook at the stove. Easiest fix is water in the fridge, but a bar or prep-type sink could also be useful.

I agree with you on the fridge. One thing I wonder is does the wall need to stick out that far. We have a wall like it and I wish it was shorter. Enough so I didn't have to have the fridge pulled out as much and also because it is in an area that sees a lot of traffic going around the corner. Ours is load bearing though.
