Designing small living room around metal spiral staircase...help!

We purchased an a-frame house with a classic black metal staircase. We had an architect draft designs for a revised switchback staircase but it cut just as far into our living space, so it wasn't worth $25K to proceed. We have decided to work with it. We have a freestanding gas fireplace that will have installed on the on the angled wall. What kind of furniture layout would you do here? What could we do to creatively use the space under the stairway? Maybe some kind of built-ins or a giant mirror? Do we somehow embrace and showcase the stairs? It's located in a very woodsy area, but also near the beach. The feel is very "cabin". My style veers more towards scandia, a bit bohemian, a bit modern/eclectic. I would love for this living room to be comfy, cozy, seat 3-4 people. No TV or anything like that involved. Help :)

Here you can see how the stairs intrude on the space... we'd love to use the space behind the stairs.
