I think you're on the right track in terms of color palette and think the curtain panels work well with the furnishings and area rug. I typically like to see more "leg" in small rooms, as they tend to open spaces. I do wonder if your furniture placement is ideal. Can you post a photo of the wall opposite the fireplace?

Those arched doorways are really special. I think your furniture arrangement is good. And your choice for a visually light coffee table is on point. The one you have is a little spindly. Maybe something with more straightforward lines would work better. This one is still visually light, with a glass top, but its base isn't as busy looking.

If you can return the armchair and ottoman, do so. Replace with a chair that shows some leg, such as below. The legs will show more floor space and thus trick the eye into thinking the room is bigger.

A wing and a fireplace is a match made in heaven. This one in leather would introduce another texture to the room. It doesn't show as much leg, but will serve its purpose just fine. I've sat in this one and can it's a nice fit for a 5'5" woman. Great for reading or conversation.

i would like to give you a more unusual rug, but unless you wish to change i will leave that alone. i like that you have gone to the gold with the gray, it looks good. it looks like you have two smaller tables as one coffee table. how about one under the plant and the other next to the table or as an end table on the other side of the couch. I think you need more task lighting in the room. you can move the lamp on the table, it does look a bit large there, will it work on the little table on the side of the couch i can not see? I have some newish pillows to from scandinavia, though not sure that is what you meant.

Hi Rachelle, those blinding lights above the fireplace are a bit much; makes it difficult to appreciate what painting you have propped there.

Now that you've painted 3walls white. I 'd option accenting the curved doorway profiles with that same dark tone. On a Property brothers episode, they changed a window from a partition glass look to a full panel, just by ripping that minimolding off it. I hope its the same type. That'd be my move. The brick on charcoal look good.

To me the room seems small because the windows and mantle have such a massive prominence on that one wall. The dark color makes it seem smaller too. I'd suggest a lower ,shorter mantle of a darker color/reclaimed barn lumber , and narrower framing of the windows with a darker shade than the wall. The ceiling needs its height and the wall needs its breathing room. All that white moulding and mantle is just too much.

Paint & overall beginnings are great. The curtains are bothering me, too bulky. I would shift the rug to a colorful, modern take on the oriental. It's a few tweaks & a color pop away from awesome. Might be worth hiring a designer!

Any time you're looking for bargains in tables, chairs -- items not upholstered -- make a few passes through Habitat for Humanity Restore Stores, "antique" -- used stuff -- stores, GoodWill, charity thrift stores, including Salvation Army family stores, and even local in home estate sales. Estate sale items that are not sold the first day are often discounted the next day.

For privacy and light control (and just to create a more finished look, you might consider a single white louvered shutter for each of the windows on the dark accept wall by the fireplace.

Be on the lookout for a pair of wood trays you could paint white to put in the drawer slots of your sideboard. You could even add a handle for the side if you find something decorative that suits your taste -- an opportunity to show your style.

Maybe too many throw pillows. Perhaps you could repurpose the pink one to a bedroom. The elongated pillows could be put at the ends of the sofa and then one pillow leaned on each end of the sofa.

Like your magazine basket left of the sideboard but it extends into the doorway. You might consider moving it to the other side or moving the sideboard a bit to one side.

For your sideboard:

If you move the lamp toward the outer edge a bit, the shade would be less likely to be touching the mirror or wall. You could put that box that's on the lower shelf of your sideboard (or something) in front of the outlet. Your blue vase could go on the bottom shelf, too, as you unclutter.

If you could find an inexpensive matched pair of sturdy bar stools -- leave them wood finish or paint them white or black -- you could use them as plant stands in front of those two high windows. WalMart usually sells them.

If you're keeping the mirror leaning against the wall on the sideboard, hang it on the wall. Because of the table beneath it, consider hanging it horizontally instead of vertically or, because of the lamp, hang it off center -- the latter possibly being a good idea if the sideboard is off center with the wall itself.

As to the art above the sofa:

If a sofa is centered with the wall behind it, any art put there will look better -- symmetry. Since you're sofa doesn't appear to be (it would put the sofa too close to the fireplace), you might consider some art other than a framed picture -- something without the more rigid nature of rectangular lines.

Is that art or mirror reflecting all those colors above the fireplace? If it's art, and depending upon the size of the wall on which you want to hang it, you could use that art over your sofa and put a clock over the mantel until you find just the right art for your personal taste.

Curtains:

Consider using a double rod wider than the window(s) and put the sheers on the rod beneath the curtains. If you hang the curtains up while still slightly damp and still warm from the dryer (pulling/stretching seams), that will often take out the wrinkles without ironing.

I like both your second and third coffee table -- the wood top would likely get my vote between the two. While the first one looks nice, having the legs sloping outward rather than straight down would, at least for me, be a stumble problem.
