1930 Kitchen Facelift - ideas appreciated
Comments (24)I know, I fell in love the first time I saw it! And it had been on the market since July without 1 offer. Are people blind? :) if so I'm really happy! I am keeping absolutely everything. Even the plastic tiles in the bathroom that are supposedly becoming collectible. All the lights are original except 2 sconces in the black/white bathroom. I'm going to try and find some on eBay to replace those with. They put blue and white sconces in a black/white tiled bath! Ugh I love the round front door and the crystal door handles. Only one door is missing its original doorknob, so I'm going to try and find a replacement for it as well. It is in the Chauncey- stadium streets historic district in West Lafayette Indiana. So it is in the National Historic Register as a contributing property for the area. We are applying for a 20% tax credit for the Renovations which will help a little bit....See MoreExterior Facelift (Paint Color w/Brick and New Garage Doors)
Comments (0)As you can see, our home is long overdue for an exterior refresh. We plan to tear out the outdated, overgrown boxwoods and replace with fresh landscaping, but that’s another thread… My questions are threefold: What is a good exterior paint color? I do not like the present gray. I was thinking BM Putnam Ivory (sample board on right side of garage) with White Dove for the trim (i.e., porch columns for sure), but am open to suggestions. I will paint the gutters a match as close to the brick as possible (BM Coyote Trail?) so they will hopefully fade away. On the ‘triangle peaks’ on the right side of the house’s roofline, am I supposed to paint the “trim” a different color, or paint it all the body color as it is presently? I’m not sure how to separate which color I paint where (fascia, soffit, body, trim, etc.). What about window trim -- body color or trim color? Please recommend a garage door style. It is hard for me to visualize different styles since there is a two-car and a one-car door and they are at the front of the house – it is such a massive expanse. Should I leave the front door stained wood with a wood-color garage, or paint one or both? Thank you for your help! "triangle peaks"...See MoreHelp with exterior facelift, change bow window? Comments (3)Yep I'd recommend getting rid of the bow window. Very pleasant house. I like the sage with the brick, but charcoal gray is also and option for your trim....See More1980's Brick Ranch - Exterior Facelift
Comments (0)I can't believe we are doing it.....but.....we are selling our 2600 sf craftsman and moving around the corner to a 1500 sf 1980's ranch. Hello downsizing! Majority of the budget is consumed by the interior update and back porch addition. Painting the brick is not a option...at least, not now. I have a few ideas for a facelift and would appreciate advise/opinions. Remove tiny porch columns and railing. Replace with three cedar (stained) columns. Replace storm door with a cedar (stained) storm door. Definitely remove shutters from window under porch (wrong size) I'm not sure about removing all shutters. I don't think the existing shutters are the correct size. But I am concerned that removing them would make the home too plain. I would like to add cedar window boxes...I think. :) Shingles are dark grey. I really need help with paint colors for trim. I am considering removing the window muntins and painting the window sills black (inside and out) and trimming with a creamy white. Yikes! Make me nervous!! The windows are all wood and in excellent condition. If I keep the shutters, what color? Charcoal, Dark Blue/Navy, Olive Green? Of course, the landscaping will be redone. I really need some advise on exterior color choices and some of my ideas. I love this little ranch. She is so adorable! My style is mostly transitional - nothing too trendy....See MoreCelery.
