I shopping for a range. I was all set to buy a slide in Frigidaire until I measured the oven depth. 15 inches verses the 18 in my current one. I don't think I want to loose that. So I am back to GE's cause theirs are deeper. rtmom2: How do you like your profile now? How deep is the oven meaning if you measure from the back of the usable part of the grate to the front? Any issues with the location of the burners, cleaning the SS, moving the grates for cleaning (they seem very heavy), noise, anything? Anyone else out there: do you have a 18" deep oven in a slide in under 2000.00? I've also looked at the GE cafe--it has so many more bells and whistles on it than we need but it does have a deeper oven. I am so tired of shopping for all this stuff for our remodeled kitchen, now I know why sometimes people settle for something just to make a decision. Thank you. Cindy

I went with the Profile double-oven gas: here are my reasons. I like the smaller-size top oven for daily use, and the lower oven will only be used on occasion, so I'm ok with its location. (There's no room for a wall oven in my tiny kitchen -- and I have no plans to tear out cabinets and rearrange.) I'm a good cook, and I honed my skills on low-end domestic ranges because that's what was available: I don't need a commercial range to cook what I like, and I'm too busy with other aspects of my life to change my cooking style now. I also prefer not to deal with "pro" level BTUS and the ventilation complications they might add. I also am not willing to give up self-cleaning ovens -- which puts many pro-style ranges out of contention. I liked the slide-in setup and the angled control-knob location on the Profile, so that, and the price advantage, led me to choose it over the Cafe. Re: price, I bought mine from a local dealer, and I got the price down a bit by asking them to meet the ajmadison.com price. They didn't quite get there, but I was willing to pay a little extra for local sales/delivery/service reliability. Everyone's situation is a little different, but I found that the Profile slide-in fits best with my kitchen and the way I use it.

I am watching my Samsung refrigerator's electronic panel fade away...it also cools unevenly. In the past, when I've had other appliances that needed repair, my very reliable repairman would always recommend GE when it was time to replace anything. The store he works at sells all the major brands, but he still recommends GE. I have a GE range in my current house, and in my last house. They've worked reliably without fuss. I've also had reliable performance from Kitchenaid built-in appliances. Still, I'm not willing to write off Samsung: they continue to sell affordable, innovative products that tempt me.

I've been reading reviews of the GE Cafe gas slide-in range (CGS985SETSS), and wondering if people still think that the cooling fan during baking is quite loud. We are looking to put the range in our open concept kitchen/family room, and I can't imagine how loud it is to determine if it will be a problem. thanks!!
