Deciding betw Samsung & GE slide-in gas range

Hi All,

We are buying a slide-in gas range. Trying to decide between the Samsung, model NX58H9500WS (http://www.homedepot.com/p/Samsung-30-in-5-8-cu-ft-Slide-In-Gas-Range-with-Self-Cleaning-Convection-Oven-in-Stainless-Steel-NX58H9500WS/205336823) or the GE JGS750SEFSS (http://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-5-6-cu-ft-Slide-In-Gas-Range-with-Self-Cleaning-Convection-Oven-in-Stainless-Steel-JGS750SEFSS/204403826).

We really like the Samsung. Has all the features we want. Does anyone have one? Any reason we should *not* buy the Samsung?

Also, one feature the GE has is "deep recessed" cook top surface. Anyone have any experience with this feature and is it really that much better?

The problem with Samsung is customer service. Or lack there of. They are terrible to deal with on most things. Depending on where you live, they may or may not have decent service personnel in your area as well.

GE makes a decent range, but in most areas, they do their own service.

As for the deep recessed cooktop, its a meaningless bit of marketing. It can theoretically hold more liquid should you spill. When was the last time you spilled more than a few ounces of water/grease on your range?

Cindy, I have the stainless with black cooktop and have had it for about 8 months. The temp seemed a little off to me and I used an oven thermometer and it was about 20 degrees too low. I used it that way and would add 20 each time I'd use it until someone told me to calibrate it. There are directions in the owners manual how to do this. Very simple. Just a few buttons pressed and it was correct. No, I have not used the convection feature (honestly I forgot about it!) I have not had any problems with it. I have heard many negative comments about the KA-noisy fan, blows circuit breakers- just to name a few.

Nope. I mean, sure, it won't melt the microwave, but as has been said before, OTR microwaves are dangerous just from being OTR and have woefully insufficient vents, especially if they're recirculating. And that's the good ones. :) What free means is that they have to give them away to get rid of them. :) To be fair, it is also possible that it's just a way of stimulating sales by giving a freebie, the way Thermador gives away dishwashers. Easier than doing a price reduction. People are a lot less sensitive to the end of a giveaway promotion than a return to regular price.

I am considering this Samsung model #NE58F9710WS. It's the one that is a double oven with one door, but has a divider on the inside of the oven. It also has a warming drawer at the bottom. I've never considered this model until I had a salesman, who owns one, told me how it works. Each section of the oven has a controller where you can set different temperatures or you can heat only 1/2 of it. Both are convection. The only time you would take the divider out is if you were baking something large, like a turkey. I'm getting ready to remodel my kitchen and I'm also thinking about a Samsung refrigerator. I haven't ordered yet, but I'm seriously thinking about it. I would love to hear other opinions on Samsung appliances. we have the samsung and love it! lowes will match the home depot price and give you another 10% off. for that price you can't go wrong

I would pay attention to the finishes. I don't have a Samsung range, but I have a new-ish Samsung fridge in brushed stainless. It's super fingerprint-y, and dents ridiculously easily. We are otherwise satisfied with it, but the finish is disappointing.

I am watching my Samsung refrigerator's electronic panel fade away...it also cools unevenly. In the past, when I've had other appliances that needed repair, my very reliable repairman would always recommend GE when it was time to replace anything. The store he works at sells all the major brands, but he still recommends GE. I have a GE range in my current house, and in my last house. They've worked reliably without fuss. I've also had reliable performance from Kitchenaid built-in appliances. Still, I'm not willing to write off Samsung: they continue to sell affordable, innovative products that tempt me.

We are looking at the same ranges. A friend remodeled his kitchen last spring and installed the Samsung and he loves it. Will Lowes really price match and give an extra 10% off?
