Comments (5)You can fit a full 24 lb. turkey into every single one of the double oven ranges, including the Maytags and the GE's. Only one oven is small size. It's the size of a big toaster oven, and the other oven is completely full sized. Most people prefer the style with the smaller oven on top, as that will do 95% of all of your baking needs. And you still have the big oven if you need it. The regular Samsungs are fairly well liked. It's only the double oven that's considered an abomination as it doesn't hold separate temps very well or evenly. Comments (5)Okay, while not installed I did get the electrics wired up so the oven was available. We decided to do a test with a frozen degarno pizza in the upper oven. Quickly found a weakness at least in my opinion. The upper oven uses what would be broiler elements in a full oven for heat. This rapidly over cooked the pizza top while leaving the crust near raw. We put it back in covered with foil to cook the crust. Crispy pepperoni,. Yuuummmmm. I've no idea if normal double oven ranges cook the same way. The rack was on the lower of the two available positions with the divider installed. Maybe if we had put the pizza on the divider itself it would have not been as bad. I don't know. Something to try next time. For now it seems that upper oven dishes will have to be covered. This was on convection bake a few degrees below where we typically set our old oven. Perhaps it should have been lower still. The old oven was not convection so not much experience there. My overall impression as to appearance, fit and finish remain good. The oven vents out the back left of the range top surface. It is fan driven and the noise is very noticeable. The sudden blower noise may just have been a surprise since our old electric oven vent didn't use a fan. The burner grids are nice and heavy though not as heavy as some of the other mid price ranges I saw. They do provide a continuous surface for sliding pots around. I like the big top burner control knobs and the up front control panel that doesn't stick way out as on some slide in models. Looking forward to getting the gas hooked up. Comments (3)I would not get a Samsung, based on what I've heard and read about their reliability and repair issues. Of the other two, the KitchenAid you've linked to is not a slide in model (actually a free-standing model), but that's a design issue that might not matter to you. One of the things I don't like for myself is the arrangement of "burners" on the GE -- I prefer larger pots at the back and smaller ones near the front. It might be different for others, of course. Still, I prefer the look of a slide in (controls on the front) and I like the linked elements; also, the GE elements are a little more powerful (eg broil). Comments (23)Since our appliances are black stainless we felt it best to get all kitchen appliances from one manufacturer. Based on reviews of Samsung appliances, dishwashers and refrigerators in particular, we decided on Whirlpool for all of our appliances. We gave up some of the bells and whistles and cool features for, hopefully, fewer problems and repairs down the road.
