if you want to go with trendy, choose something that's similar to the floor tile in your first photo-- which would most likely be Lyric #01072. however, super pale hardwood floors might be considered dated in a few years. also, the photo looks just a little too pinkish--it's so hard to tell how it would look in your room.

Fireside #06006 seems more neutral and timeless. I'd personally lean towards that one, provided it's not too yellow.

no matter what you choose, you need to make sure the undertone doesn't clash with the cabinets. you'll never be able to tell from photos. get real samples of all of your finishes to make sure they go together (including countertop, tile, etc).

what you don't want is one that leans yellow, or pink. and all the ones you pick seem to do so.

take a cabinet door and go to a flooring place w/all the floor samples on display. pick one that compliments it, NOT matches it.

I'd pick a white oak (you could do something like this. a Stain on site)

or look into the Bona Nordic seal. Any of these colors and wood type would look nice

If you must choose one of these, Fireside is ok, but it could lean too yellow.

No matter what floor you pick, I wouldn't go with that color for the banquette upholstery. there is just too much beige in here.

Also note that these cabinets really go pinkish in some areas (look under the banquette seat). maybe they don't IRL? but they sure do in the photo.

With Lyric, there are many pink/peach tones overall, it reminds me of the 80s.

I would prefer to see a white tile that matches the counters. Modern can be very bold. I love modern. The cabinets your are showing have clean lines. That's a start. The over all appearance will not be modern until you spice it up.

A stunning 'under lit' agate counter top (turquoise agate is a great look with the colour of the cab). Then you can play with some strong metal tones - chrome will be a stronger step towards modern. Or you can go with a stainless steel counter top...The cab colour needs some bling. A white counter top will be nice...so long as you work ultra modern on the floors. Like high-gloss over-sized porcelain pavers.

If you must have wood or wood look, you can work SUPER LIGHT (white or lime washed) or super dark (not my favourite). Or you can go with stone or porcelain tile.

Thank you both so much! Unfortunately, I'm really limited to the design center options. The only brands they have are Shaw and Anderson Tuftex. The willow smooth is Anderson Tuftex and the other three are Shaw. All the four floor options above are white oak. There were other white oak options but they looked too traditional or rustic. The other non-white oak wood flooring options also looked too traditional.

Be very aware of Shaw wood products. Too many people have had issues. There are hundreds of complaints on Houzz about Shaw wood products.

Katie, I hate those design centers! Is there any way you can nix their selections altogether? or, any way they'll let you purchase your own product? Talk to them and see if there is anything you can do. it's a shame to have to choose something, especially flooring, that you really don't like. Flooring will be there forever! choose wisely.

If they refuse to let you do anything else, what is the basic option? the option that is included at no extra charge? maybe do that and after closing get what you really want.

No, unfortunately, i can't do my own option. I asked if I can get the cheapest vinyl flooring and get it replaced, but the design center said that it would be really difficult to replace it since the wood floors would have to go underneath the kitchen island with waterfall counter...

that's true. you'd have to do a quarter round molding around the island.

It's just another way they try and gouge you. they up-charge everything, and then won't even let you pay for your own items! the floors they're giving you are probably 1/10th the cost to them that they're charging you. that's how these builders make their money.

I'd research the ones you like and pick the best one.

as far as color, up to you if you want a natural light, or a darker one. I think the Willow is a good choice.

As mentioned, it is really hard to help you with monitors showing important colors. I like the willow the best. Overall, I think it's the easiest to design the rest of the house with.

Thanks all! They haven't used the willow in the model. Yes...they definitely do up charge for sure. I went to a reputable flooring place and they quoted me about half (for a pretty upscale wood floor option D'vine) of what the design center quoted for their cheap Shaw/Anderson Tuftex options.

If the Willow is made in China and the Fireside option is made in the USA, considering the house design, would this change your mind especially since it's a Shaw product?

I'm not familiar w/either, but I'd be tempted to stay w/the USA one.

I can't believe you're paying almost double for floors you could have done yourself after closing.

you mentioned a waterfall on the island, is that the only thing stopping you from doing your own floors? will you be doing that banquette too?

ultimately even w/the waterfall, there are ways to change out the flooring.

(similar cab color, natural white oak flooring)

a really good installer could put down new floors w/the old flooring underneath the island. toe kicks would hide the gap against the perimeter cabs.

Honestly? I'd do you own flooring after moving in. get whatever basic floor they offer w/no uncharge. be there on the day of install and advise them not to use much glue or mortar.

Thanks! Unfortunately, the standard is porcelain/ceramic 12 by 12 inch so they would need to use glue and grout it.... I asked if they can use vinyl sheet or even put in carpet, and they said no.

that is so weird. is there any way at all to ask them to just not put flooring in at all? like, is it in the contract or something?

With my builder, they will not close without flooring, so that’s probably not an option for the OP. I like the Lyric, looks like the most modern of the bunch.
