If you're not painting the bookcase just paint the molding on the other 3 walls. Don't introduce another color for desk paint it black like the door

I agree. White molding for the trim but leave the brown molding above the bookcase. Black desk. The white walls would be fine, but a bit boring. A soft color that coordinates with the rest of your house could be nice. Either way, add some large pieces of art to the wall above the desk. And try to consolidate and organize the shelving. You can use trays/baskets for each person to pull off the shelves and use at the desk, and then put away.

I know I’m the odd one out so far. But I say paint the trim white. All of it. However. I’d making it more substantial. A little thicker.... for paint. Whites fine. Would you consider wallpaper? Or painting it a little bit more bold? I’d add a rug. Hardware to the built ins. And a new desk. I don’t think I’d paint this one.

I kind of agree white wall might be boring after trims change into white. Any suggestions for the wall color? We have bm balboa mist through out the house, would it still be too subtle for this room? I thought about darker grey too, but get worried that it might look too dull with brown bookcase.

For the desk, would sw iron ore be ok? I know buying a new one is the best solution :-) but we are trying to refresh a room with things what we have. Messy stuffs will get organized for sure though! 🙂

Btw, the wall color that is on now is bm beachglass.

The white walls could look nice with the other dark elements in the room, offering contrast to the wood and dark desk. A few pieces of art on the walls will really make a big difference. You could also consider painting or putting removable wallpaper on just the back of the built in cabinets, in a light color that coordinates with your new wall color.
