Have you had a "TDAP" vaccine?
Comments (17)Yes, I did. I'm not sure anyone here remembers, but when my daughter was 5 months old, she got pertussis. We had delayed vaccinations because she was sick often, inc., with something that seemed to be seizures. All of my other children were up-to-date. What is worrisome to me is that, in Australia, they no longer believe in "cocooning" Pertussis has been a major health problem there, so they would always advise family members to get vaccinated to protect children who were too young for the shots. They since concluded that there was no evidence it helped. In our case, I think my oldest daughter brought it home from school, but it never affected her more than a little fever for a day or two. The doctor told me that she could definitely have passed it on, even being vaccinated. (And my doctor is pro-vax for sure.) At the same time my daughter had it, my friend and her children got it (same school; was the very end of school so I don't know about anyone else). Her children were up-to-date with shots and not close to needing a booster. A scary reminder that a vax can help but isn't effective for everyone. Comments (38)I did, also at Costco. My insurance covered it, but even if it had not, I definitely would have paid many times over to prevent getting the flu. I do hope those "You are not just flu'in yourself!" advertisements worked. Although I definitely understand not getting the vaccine if you have an allergy or sensitivity - TG does, which is all the more reason for me to get the shot. I office out of my house, but about once per month I travel for business. So, I have the worst combination of lack of consistent exposure to bugs and the barrage of germs you come in contact with in airplanes and hotels. I swear, if I come within ten yards of a kid with a cold, I get a cold, so I'm not taking any chances!...See MoreDid you experience any side effects after the Shingrix vaccine?
Comments (312)Yay! Glad you are getting the second shot. And always good to be prepared for feeling a little down a day or two after a vaccine if you can. After a strong response to the first, my second was nothing unusual (little arm soreness? I remember the first -- not the second. LOL). I hope you have the same. I strongly encourage anyone who has reservations about a second shot to get it. My feeling is that if you had a strong reaction, you are EXACTLY who benefits most from and may need the vaccine, including the second dose, the most. If you still had a strong immunity to the virus and were likely to hold the virus at bay over the years, it doesn't seem your body would have such a strong response. Seeing my husband's pain for months and my cousin worrying about her husband possibly going blind was enough for me. I'll get a third shot if they ever decide it is needed.......See MoreDid you switch arms for your second Covid shot?
Comments (29)""Dominant arm" is only used more if you are what: writing/pitching/throwing...I would say most of the time my right arm is very much doing what my left arm is. They sort of work in tandem....I presented my nurse with the arm closest to her. Will repeat that for shot #2. NO way to know today how we will be seated." I'm very right handed and do little or nothing with my left. it's usually just resting. I think that's true of most people, they don't typically work in tandem. As to which side is accessible for an injection, a left-handed friend drove himself to a large mega-site vaccine operation taking place in a parking lot. He wanted the shot in his right arm and the person administering the shot said "no problem, slide your seat back, twist your body, and I'll be able to do that". If that can be done with a person confined in a car seat, any other situation (including in a room) can be easily accommodated....See More- 5 years agolast modified: 5 years ago
