Question for owners of Electrolux ICON all fridge & all freezer
Comments (7)rhome 410 -- thanks for your response and your kitchen looks fabulous! You have given me some hope that the ICONS may work for us too. In both cases (left of freezer and right of fridge) the "wall" is actually part of a cased opening, so our situation is somewhat similar to what you have with your freezer. But our "wall" is a bit deeper -- the plans call for these walls to extend about 17" beyond the face of the fridge/freezer. We could make the cased openings a little wider if we need to. Would you mind telling me the distance between the face of your freezer and the doorway that the freezer door opens into (you say it is "about a foot or more")? And I'm assuming you can get your freezer door open wide enough to remove bins for cleaning? You are correct that most other fridges/freezers would have the same problem, but I have found a set that would work for us and of course they cost a mint. The Sub Zero 700TR and 700 TF would require much less clearance, and they are also narrower (27" instead of 32") so I could bump the fridge to the left and freezer to the right without changing cased openings and have plenty of wall clearance. They are shallower too (24") which would be better for our layout. But for a $8,400 savings, I sure would like to make those ICONS work! The ICONS look great online and in your kitchen. My reservations were mostly based on my visit to our local dealer. The dealer was very unimpressive and could not even understand my question, much less answer it....See Morecalling all owners of bamboo floors
Comments (3)Our information is very much in line with finnpond's. However, our floor is, as we speak, acclimating to our house in the boxes (manufacturer recommends leaving the boxes open at both ends). Here are our answers so far: Small local store (Amicus Green Building Supply) Eco-Timber Natural (for color and strength - we heard carbonized has a weaker hardness factor) Vertical The sub-floor in our 39 year-old house is thinner than those installed these days. And there were existing 2 layers of a vinyl-type floor. Our contractor said only the top layer could be removed without ruining the sub-floor. He is going to lay thin layers on uneven portions to make the floor level. He tells me that tongue-and-groove floors like our Eco-Timber's tongue-and-groove style, need to be installed differently than a nailed-down hardwood floor. Installed by colleague of our contractor who has also worked with our retailer before. We did a lot of research and found info in line with finnpond's. Quality makes a big difference. Issues you didn't mention that are also of importance are the out-gassing of the material when it is laid (e.g.,formaldehyde), worker conditions and pay, whether an existing forest was cut down to make way for a bamboo plantation, etc. Some writers said the altitude of the bamboo forest makes a difference (higher supposedly being better). The most important factor is how long the bamboo grows before it is harvested. It reaches its full height fairly quickly (it's a grass, not a tree). However, it needs to grow 5 - 9 years before it is harvested for flooring. Most of the salespeople don't have a clue about the time factor. My advice - work with someone (both a retailer and an installer) who has experience with bamboo and choose your product carefully....See MoreCalling all long arm owners! Tell me about your setup.
Comments (32)Sue, I have the Viking Mega Quilter and Inspira Frame and I love it. We got it just before the New Generation Frames were coming out, so the whole setup was just under $2000. It can be set up at half width or full (120") which is where I have left it. It will do a king size--but I've never made one that big. I have done queen size with no problems and have gone as small as about 1 yard (for a purse) As the others have said, on bigger quilts you have to plan ahead for the smaller quilting area or simply turn it around. I read many postings on home quilting forums about different problems and was determined to not be frustrated with the learning curve. And I can honestly say the problems were absolutely minimal and I was hooked from the get-go. I'm still not a "pro" by any means, but I sure am enjoying it. Comments (14)No! Don't steer clear of white! You who are having staining issues, are you using Blanco sinks or another brand? And if your sink is white or light, are you using Soft Scrub with bleach to clean it? I've had my WHITE WHITE Blanco silgranit sink for 2 years. NOTHING stains it. I've had beets in there. Much coffee (with splashes that DH doesn't notice). Tomato based stuff. Even tumeric which stains everything!! Not one stain in my sink. Never even one problem cleaning it. I called Blanco before the sink was delivered to ask what to clean it with. They said Soft Scrub on the white ones. So that's what I use. With a green scrubby pad (Scotch Brite green pads). Most of the time I just used the Soft Scrub with my dish rag and any pot marks come right out. Pot marks are the only marks I seem to get in the sink, but they wipe out with not even any muscle. I don't know why others have bad luck with them unless they're a different brand, and therefore a different type of material or something. My white Blanco gets 5 stars from me and I highly recommend it. I love the granite you've chosen, by the way!...See MoreJohn Creek
