Schock-Houzer Granite Sink vs. Blanco Silgranit
Comments (40)I've visited this thread several times and it's interesting that it is still fairly active. I'm looking at the Cristadur waterfall 150 in Bronze. Wayfair carried them a few months ago with good prices but when I checked last night, there were no Schock or Houzer sinks listed on their site. I have found a supplier from Germany on eBay, his listings are rather obscure and you have to dig deep to find them. He carries the entire line including vintage models and colors; GREAT prices with a flat $145 shipping. I currently have a Swanstone in black that drove me crazy when it was new with water marks and looking dry, until I wiped it down with coconut oil a couple of years ago and I've not touched it again. It now wipes down and is cleaned continually from just washing dishes and looks brand new. I'm looking at Schock over Blanco for my remodel in a different house due to the unique look of the waterfall, but I'm worried that it might suffer from being less than utilitarian. They have a matching 15" prep sink which I plan to install as well. Anyone have any real experience with the waterfall design or Schock for that matter?...See MoreCalling All Miele W4800 Users Input Wanted
Comments (19)@ sshrivastava: Regarding the animated display: I'm not saying it can't be done but I think it won't be done. Miele does not even sell washers in any other color other than white (besides that one Chocolate Edition in Canada). Even their fanciest products have the same orange display. The only item, it seems, where Miele does allow several different colors are their vacuum cleaners. Their newest S6 line even comes wrapped in velvet. It's not only Miele that uses water softeners in dishwashers. Every single dishwasher manufacturer in Europe uses them. Again, not saying it can't be done or that it wouldn't be a good/interesting idea - I'm just saying that I don't see it happening any time soon. @ livebetter: Bosch makes some good appliances and very efficient ones, too. Even in green Europe, they are continuously bringing out appliances that are a little more efficient than all the others. Technically, the fill and drain hoses on the Miele washer are no problem as they should really be long enough to reach behind the dryer. The dryer, however, can be a problem because you will obviously have to add extra venting to connect the dryer's vent to the opening in the wall. This should add two more elbows, which can be problematic if there is already a long vent run to the outside. The Bosch washer is .24 cu.ft. larger, which means roughly one lbs. more capacity. Bosch calls it AquaStop - Miele Waterproof. Same technology. Unfortunately, there are very few videos of the Vision online. This one shows Miele's venting process on the Comforters cycle. How much more or less water the Bosch uses - I don't know. Regarding the max temperature: well, my washer can go up to 203F and I never use it. 140F is the highest temp I use, so 158 would be hot enough for me. Both washers will heat the water whenever needed - except for Miele's "Normal" cycle, I think. Both washers have cold-only rinses. The Bosch dryer does not reverse tumble. 100 rpm won't make much of a difference. "Spin Speed Optimized Drying Time" just gives you a better initial estimation of the time left to dry the load and that "DynamicAir" technology... Miele also has a very powerful blower but it's just not given a special name. Miele probalby makes the better washer/dryer but those doors and the venting... Comments (42)Igloochic, No, I'm not definitively certain because I'm happy to say I wasn't around pre-WWII (or even pre- any wars that weren't Gulf war or later). ;-) I have asked the most knowledgeable person I know on all things Victorian and otherwise older furniture to please weigh in here so that somebody learned in the area can opine. That said, all the "older" pieces of furniture I've ever seen which haven't had fixed brackets and fixed shelving have had the brackets affixed to the cabinet sides (sort of like oven racks) that the shelves could be slid in and out on - I'll dig up some pics of antiques and post so you can see what I mean. I've always understood the pin & predrilled hole system for adjustable shelving to have been introduced with the standardized template which was part of all the standardization adopted post-WWII during the massive reconstruction happening in Europe. Much of all this standardization was to enable rapid production to meet the huge demand at that time - none of the centuries old custom methods which, while artisanal and all, took eons to complete. As I said, if this is incorrect, I'd love to be edified. I hope Rococogurl or jon or one of the other furniture and woodworkers will pipe up - they actually do know what they're talking about....See MoreCleaning tips for white hard water stains on Blanco silgranite sink
Comments (19)Your water probably isn’t the problem. It’s the sink! My sink looked like that after a few months of being very careful with everything. I had my water tested to make sure it wasn’t something in my water, my water was perfect. Not hard. PH was 7.2. No chemicals, bacteria, nothing. This sink is just bad! Blanco markets this sink as stain resistant, scratch resistant, bla bla bla and it’s all lies! I contacted customer service immediately and they refused to refund me or provide a replacement sink. They told me I needed to use more “elbow grease” despite their claim that this sink is “low maintenance” Blanco is boldly marketing lies and ripping people off. The problem is, once your sink is fabricated into your brand new counter top, nobody wants to pay to tear the sink/counter out. Blanco knows this and they rely on it to get away with never replacing these awful sinks. I called them out on it. I asked for a refund and told them I would allow a Blanco rep to come to my home and take the sink out. Guess what? They said no. I have an entire email thread with customer service and it’s very obvious that they know what they are doing. Don’t waste your money on this trash. My kitchen renovation is plagued by a nasty sink that is stained. Ruined my entire look!...See Morerovo
