family picture: a Grandmother's love circa 1928. My father's mother's mother; my father is the twin on the right (I think). This is the only picture we have of her when she is actually smiling :-)

With those heavy ankles, the poor woman must've had some health issues...no wonder she didn't smile often.

Annie, I wondered about her health too, with such swollen ankles. She died 4 or 5 years after this picture, at age 64. In another picture it looks like bandages wrapped around her ankles.

eta: just realized that makes her my age in the photo -- I don't look that old, do I? Yikes.

Nickel, love the pic with twins. Both of my great grandmothers had twins, one of hubs, great grandmothers had twins. One of my grandmothers had twins , many cousins in our families had twins. It has been fun , pregnant relatives find out how many heart beats. Just curious, more twins in your family in the different generations?

Fred and Rocket. I think it was a bit one-sided, but Fred tolerated Rocket to do whatever he wanted. :)

Hallngarden, just that one set of twins in the whole family line. It must have been truly random, rather than any sort of genetic predisposition. Dad and his brother weren't identical but looked very much alike, so I don't think there was any monkey business going on!
