Would these valances work in my kitchen/breakfast area?
Comments (13)my3dogs- I never even noticed that! I've looked at SO many valances in the last few days! The only thing that bothered me about these valances is that they are not lined but I thought maybe I could take them to our drycleaners & see if the seamstress could line them for me. brutuses- Thank you for your honesty. I DO appreciate it. Matching colors is something I am the very worst at & I do not know what color to add to this kitchen. I would say my taste is pretty traditional. beachrose- I wish I could sew, then I would make the valance I REALLY want, this one: dilly dally- I do like the above style, but I'll just have to find something temporarily until I spend more money on custom valances. Everytime I come across this style, it is too floral or busy looking. Thank you all so much!!...See MoreBreakfast Area Help
Comments (29)HI Beverly, The reason I didn't hang the drapes closer to the ceiling because my ceiling is 13ft tall. I would have needed drapes at least 145 to 155 inches which you cannot find at your local store. I would have had to go custom which would have cost me thousands. Building a brand new home, and having to furnish over 20 window, close to 2800 sq ft was out of the question. I also had to get the home ready for the holidays; since we closed on the home in October and I had family coming to stay for Thanksgiving and Christmas. So we had to place money elsewhere, that weren't going to custom drapes. Therefore; I found 108 inch panels and decided to hang the curtains to where they touch the top of the trim but not dragging on the floor. I also had to make sure the curtains weren't so short lining up with the window seat. If I could have found some panels off the shelf around that length, the panels would have been hung closer to the ceiling. As first time home buyers, renting all the time, we never thought to price in drapes or thought window size matter. We thought we could just go to the store and buy off he shelf blinds and curtains. Some of my windows inside the home are not standard sizes you find in the store. Home Depot and Lowes do not even carry many of the windows without special order. Also the blinds I do have were a headache to get and cut. Lesson learned, just go with the builder blinds. Not to mention these drapes cost me a pretty penny themselves....See MoreHelp with Breakfast Nook Area
Comments (32)Dining chairs with arms are much more difficult to get in and out of than those without arms, and must be scooted back a ways to do so. The depth of the curves on your chairs makes them almost as deep as arms. The metal protectors that came on my "good" dining set slide very well on the rug. The plastic ones we bought for the kitchen set can get dirt/sand imbedded in them if not used on a rug. My kitchen table is the same width and length as yours, although it's a rectangle so has more surface space at each end. We usually have 6 to 8 people for birthdays, holidays, etc. and with 8 people, putting the serving dishes on the table gets very crowded, but that may depend on how many offerings you have.
