January Pictures - Let’s See ‘Em!
Comments (85)Kelley - I think if my little valencia every produces I will try to grow from seed just to see what happens. Every January I setup my seeds, heat mat and grow lights in our kitchen to start all my plants for spring. I will add that to it if it every happens! MyerMike - thanks! I have been on here posting the pics since about 2016 when my poor lisbon and bearrs lime were sunburnt when i first put them in the ground. It was my first time planting a tree(we had just got the house) and I couldn't figure out what was wrong with them and I just didn't want them to die. I'd killed plenty of trees previously on a patio that was in full sun. Even my local nursery gave me BAD advice. I couldn't believe it. The good folks here have helped me get my trees thriving. I've since added a few more trees(and I want to buy more every year). I'm so thankful for this forum and all of you! Helped me help my trees. Nules - those lemons and limes are so beautiful! What do you do with them all? I hope to one day have a lime crop like that!!...See More'Aloe' plants of 2018, please let's see them!
Comments (75)I have a few dwarf aloes due to space considerations. Mine are all under lights during the winter. Seattle light is very poor for succulents in the winter. I also tend to collect species rather than hybrids, but I have both. Seattle is a lousy place to buy aloes. Onward to the plants: Aloe 'Walmseys Blue' Aloe dichotoma, a tree aloe. Unkown Aloe hybrid? Aloe bellatula Aloe striata Aloe sp. Aloe juvenana Another unknown hybrid Aloe brevifolia Aloe sinkata...See MorePlease, let's see your citrus trees for March 2021!
Comments (39)@bonsai_citrus_and_indoor_gardening, I was asking the same thing not too long ago. We have two Kaffir/Makrut trees which now produce fruit year round. My favorite thing to make with them is Thai green curry paste, which uses the juice, rind and/or leaves. I make a large batch and put it into ice cube trays, freeze and then store in zip lock bags. When the craving for curry hits, we stir fry whatever meat or vegetables we have on hand, add 2 - 3 cubes of frozen curry paste with a can of coconut cream, simmer and then serve over rice. Here is the recipe for the paste: 1 stalk lemongrass 2 Tbsp Coriander Seeds 2 Tbsp Fish Sauce 1 tsp Brown Sugar 4-6 Green Chillies, deseeded (adjust as per to taste) 1 small Onion/Shallot 1-2 large Garlic Cloves 1 tsp Kaffir Lime Zest 1 tbsp Kaffir Lime Juice 1 thumb-size piece Ginger 1 cup Cilantro stems and leaves 1 cup fresh Basil stems and leaves Mix well, using a food processor, blender or by hand. I modify the recipe by amping up the juice & zest and I sometimes add in the leaves. The juice is great in savory asian dishes, but is far too strong a taste for cocktails or desserts. I use the juice with a white fish (see this recipe - https://www.blueapron.com/recipes/seared-cod-with-makrut-lime-butter), as part of Tom Yum soup, or to season and garnish Pad Thai. They are featured in many Thai dishes....See MoreCitrus trees June, 2021, let's see them please!
Comments (40)Steve, such a nice set up you have there and I will bet you don't mind fall coming at all knowing they are safe)_ Jan , thanks )) Funny how many things we have in common. Lol. It's amazing actually. I used vinyl on mines so roots can not break through . Ther is also an imperviable liner you can use to prevent that. That has been together for almost 10 years and never a problem. I never have to clean it too. Just a net to catch debris once in a while and a good filter, that is it...I love it MY fish know me well and come to the surface when I speak to them and hover at the top until I had feed them. My frog jumps on too a lily pad once I go back there and sings to me. Eats out of my hand. It's a riot. It talks to me. The neighbors, I hear you..lol I planted trumpet vine years back and it comes up every where and I noticed 5 houses done there too..lol It is very peaceful hearing the sounds of water back there and the sounds of birds. Smells so good since 90 percent of what I planted is fragrant. As lon as you keep the bottom of the pond pebble free or gravel free, so easy to keep clean. I have just a few bigger stones in there so that sweeping a net at the bottom is so easy. Many hugs to you too. Glad you like my citrus tree. I LOVE the color yellows on it. I love that bright yellow branch. You know when your trees are happy when brighter colors have no brown spots on them)) Hugs again and boy, I wonder where Brian is? I hope he is ok....See MoreUser
