Comments (7)January is for looking at lovely pictures online. If you are in Wisconsin, do that! When spring comes, the irises will come back up! Maybe your season is not long enough for rebloom, but even if it isn't you can enjoy the time you do have with them. I don't put anything in rows. I plant everything "here & there" with other things between them---so I will nearly always have something blooming. eg-there are spring bulbs in among the irises--grape hyacinths, daffs, etc--and daylilies in between them too--when the irises are done, the daylilies are beginning. I also put chrysanthemums in pots in there, or at the edges--so in Oct/Nov when the perennials have really quit, I still have nice fall color. I treat the mums as annuals....See MoreJanuary - February 2011 Applique/Paper Piece Lotto
Comments (12)Thanks for the comments. As for pattern choices... my goodness they're difficult! One pp that I chose that I thought would be simple, turned out to be a nightmare to make (my apologies!). I would love to choose more complex/adult/mature patterns, but I worry about whether they would scare away beginner level quilters. Another problem I'm running into is that there are a lot fewer non-juvenile themed patterns in pp that are on free sites. And many of the applique patterns seem awfully time consuming for a lotto, though I love them.... such as floral wreath patterns. The last couple of lottos, I've tried having pp and applique in the same month so that quilters who enjoy one technique, but not the other, don't need to sit out a cycle. And it's very difficult finding TWO patterns, one pp & one applique (in the same or similar sizes) that will go together in the same project. I'll try a couple of more lotto cycles, but would definitely welcome suggestions of pattern/fabric combinations that fit the criteria I'm trying to meet each month. Thanks, Kay...See MoreLet’s share January blooms or anything pretty
Comments (43)Thanks, you never know where I'll show up. ;-) Its my understanding that the IPG collection was privately owned by someone who lived in Cananda and was then gifted to IPG in owners later years. IPG has had this only for a little over 10 years now....See MoreJanuary 2021 Week 3
Comments (63)Danny, I'm so sorry. I haven't had to deal with this yet....and fortunately (so far) Mom and I get along very well. My Dad died at 53. Mom is 74 now. BUT, I can (sort of) imagine how painful all of this must be for you. And complicated. You're a good son to continue to try to care for him even through all the pain and hurt. Prayers! Around here, I can't seem to get it together. And I can't seem to say no. Next week. Next week is my new year. Fingers crossed. I'm cleaning today. I really, really wish I wasn't one of those annoying people who have to have my physical environment a certain way for me to feel relaxed and creative and settled. HU worked on the GH on Thursday. It's pretty solid. He's doing a great job, but I'll let him tell about it it more when he's ready. I held the hammer a few times. LOL Larry, I think you mentioned something on one of the threads wondering how we all grow everything that we grow...and how you don't have space for it all. I think the deal is that a lot of us only grow a small amount of a particular thing. While you go all in and grow a lot of each thing. That is HU's way too. I'm trying to do a combination this year. I want a LOT of some things--things for canning. Even tomatoes of a particular type. All of this is our survivalist garden. Then, I want to grow one or two of a few other things in the kitchen garden. Certain tomatoes and peppers that I don't need a lot of. The exception is onions. I think they do better in raised beds, so they'll go in the kitchen garden. I'd better stop sitting and get back at it. Alone time at home is a rare and treasured thing, so I need to take advantage of it....See Moreevdesert 9B Indio, CA
